A remaster of the first two Suikoden games, titled Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, is scheduled to be released by Konami in 2023. This news comes after a gap of ten years, during which nothing new was released in the cherished franchise.

There are so many great, turn-based role-playing game (RPG) series out there that haven’t had a new installment in a very long time that it’s almost impossible to choose just one. You could keep going down the list with games like Wild Arms, Grandia, and Skies of Arcadia. One of the most well-liked series available, Suikoden, which comprises two core titles and hasn’t seen much mention from Konami since 2012, is one of the franchises that fans have been longing to see for a very long time.

The good news is that this is going to alter. Earlier today, during a presentation at the Tokyo Game Show, it was revealed that Suikoden would be making a comeback in the form of a remastered collection that will include the series’ first two titles, Suikoden and Suikoden 2. The compilation will be available for purchase on Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2023 under the name Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars.

On the game’s official Steam website, which went up earlier today, a number of the significant features present in the HD remaster have been highlighted as being part of the update. As can be seen in the clip, all of the game’s effects have been brought up to date. In addition, new environmental sound effects have been included, and the game’s battle sound effects have been upgraded to play in high definition. Character portraits have also been redrawn by Junko Kawano in HD; she was the one who came up with the concept for them when she was working on the very first game.
