Nightdive Studios issued a massive update for System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster, and gamers have *thoughts*. The delay was announced, chiefly for consoles, so the reaction has run from patient to hype to spicy.
So basically, Nightdive is saying: All good to roll out on PC; PS5 and Xbox editions, however, need some more time, more polish, more something. Time matters so much right now that they do not want to be pinned down with a date at this point. Most players really seem okay with that. Sevenblades even chimed in, “It’ll be worth the wait,” and I stand by that. But then you have the likes of ELardillas666 throwing shots towards the studio about System Shock Remake bugs, going “Can we get the AI fixed first??”
Physical copies became a huge conversation, as well. Lots of gamers, including DoubleDPads and FerdiBacon, are basically begging for a disc release. @Cosmokeeper improbably said “all patches on disc,” so that is the vibe right now. Nightdive has not said anything yet, but interest is *loud*.
Then… there was the entire VR-question. HadetTheUndying says, “Hey, what happened to that VR support you teased??” JhonneyDOOM relates that with the original plan for a VR-exclusive being axed by Meta, it might come back to the table later should the remaster sales go well. So… fingers crossed?
Oh, just so you know, a world without random demands is a boring one. ELardillas666 went after Nightdive with “I need Hexen and Heretic remastered,” which… honestly? Somehow. Meanwhile, TheVisitorSNAFU is praising them for choosing to do PC first as “the right move.”
Bottom line? System Shock 2 Remaster is a thing… one day. PC gets early bird treatment, consoles have to hold their horses, and the physical release dream just sort of hangs out there somewhere. They’re appreciating Nightdive’s bright-side-out transparency; meanwhile, the wait is *painful*. And hey, if you got that itch for some classic horror RPG experience, you can always replay the original? Or scream at the top of your lungs till the remaster hits. Your call.
Oh, and Death Stranding 2 is *definitely* not the cause for the delay. Probably.
