The biggest news is Epic dropping the information on Fortnite’s 14 Days of Summer, launching heated arguments: Some had maybe unreasonable expectations, while others did not. Running until July 7, the event will serve a variety of daily quests, XP enhancements, and cosmetic treats. Truly the in-law of comments, this fungible combination sort of split the community into half-excited, half-let-down.

Around 13 hours later, after the original tweet, the players might start enjoying their summer-themed quests for goodies. “Grab the sunscreen and Shield Potions!” the official tweet teased, all with regards to the seasonal theme. But while some are about to grind through this, others remain indifferent, saying that the rewards are kind of basic as compared to the Winterfest or Fortnitemares.

@hazelzskulls is one among many voices against such flimsy rewards: “This might be the worst summer items I have ever fucking seen.” Ouch! Others shared the sentiment: @TomatoMan45 said, “I wish they put effort on summer events like fortnitemares and winterfest.” Apparently permanent recipes for seasonal magic by Epic Games seem to be falling short for these players.

That was far from all of the criticism as other players counter that the unvaulted weapons, new reload map, and weekly Blitz updates weigh in quite favorably for the event. The great @apollo1084 came to defend the event and its devs: “Y’all are ungrateful as hell 💀 we’re getting a bunch of unvaults, a new reload map, weekly Blitz updates etc.” Perhaps there is more to this event than what meets the eye?

And of course, no Fortnite discussion would be complete without the classic argument regarding “greediness of Epic.” @X_DJDEEM_X continued: “Fortnite isn’t the same as it was 7 years ago. Now it’s just a big corporation for collabs.” It’s harsh, but expected given how deeply monetized the game at hand had grown over the years. Then @pizzasoda777 joined the rebuff: “Epic only cares about 🤑🤑🤑.” You really can’t argue with the test; the collabs and battle passes keep the lights on.

Meanwhile, the missing Westside Gunn collab remains a mystery. @Nothingingingme questioned matter-of-factly: “Hey dumbpex what happened to westside Gunn collab?” No answer yet, maybe it’s for a later update, or maybe it’s sitting in the vault with all other unreleased content—as usual.

But one thing is sure: Fortnite players will never be shy about sharing their first impressions. Whether you are here to grind some XP or just to complain about there being no shield sprites as back blings (hello, @RothermelM16065), 14 Days of Summer might just create some circus before wrapping up on July 7.

So grab those sunscreen emotes and strap in—it’s summer in Fortnite, whether you want it or not. And if you don’t? There is always next season.
