Welcome to the raucous red carpet moment for probably Street Fighter 6‘s bratty villain. JP is everything an aristocratic man in business specializing in mind games should be, plus a recognition that players would expect to come with it-mega in-game events, exclusive competitions, and mountains of Drive Tickets.

But it’s never too late to attend the Battle Hub, because Capcom surely has a birthday event for JP (voiced by Wally Wingert, which also happens to bring the chaotic energy of Riddler in the Arkham games and beyond). And of course, there are JP-specific tournaments, because what’s more “happy birthday” than forcing an entire roster to play your main, right?

To boot, players jumping into action will also have a bit more Kudos for JP (because even villains deserve some love) and-wait for it-real award, a personalized message and 1000 Drive Tickets. That’s right, free currency just for showing up. No grinding or microtransactions necessary. Just a small gift from Capcom that says: “Hey, thanks for playing.”

If you do not know JP, here’s how it gets broken down. This still villain type-probably sipping tea while ripping your entire game plan apart, teleports, projectiles, throws up enough psychological warfare that even your best players start to doubt themselves. And yet, unbelievably, he has fans. Maybe it is the suit. Maybe it’s the voice. Either way, people love him, and Capcom knows it.

Coincidentally, the timing is also interesting. So far, Street Fighter 6 has done very well since its release. Updates continue to flow while adding to each other with balance tweaked and new costumes. But throw a character birthday bash? That would indeed be fan service at its next level. It gets you wondering-who’s next? Will there be a Rashid appreciation week? Maybe a Luke-themed tournament, where all are forced to spam his obnoxious rush punches?

This is how JP rolls for now. The tournaments are on; the Drive Tickets are waiting, and if you’ve been wanting to see a lobby full of JPs going at it, well, here’s your chance. Just don’t blame Capcom if every match ends up a teleporting, projectile-spamming nightmare.

So yes, log in and get your freebies, maybe win a tournament or two. And if you come across a particularly smug JP player, remember: It’s his birthday. Let him enjoy this one.
