Steins;Gate: My Darling’s Embrace has finally launched outside of Japan. The title is a single-player visual novel spin-off of the original Steins;Gate game.
The European PlayStation Blog confirmed the release earlier this week, but then removed the listing. It was launched digitally one day later.
According to the official Steam page summary: “Fall in love with the lab members all over again in this sweet and slapstick romantic comedy!”
The newest title is a spin-off of the original Steins;Gate game and takes a more light-hearted approach. The game takes place in an alternate version of the game. The player controls protagonist Rintaro Okabe, and he can still romance one of the female leads. Okabe has to take on a side-job to pay for the lab’s bills.
While Okabe has to work hard, he can also get closer to one of the characters from the series. The focus is more on building relationships and making the right decisions. That means Okabe paying attention to who contacts him on the phone. The more attentive he is to his love interest, the higher the chances he’ll build a relationship with the person on the other side. The story is led by the player’s decisions and will lead to one of the multiple endings.
While Steins;Gate was a more serious story, the light-hearted spin-off doesn’t have any horrible endings or ways to fail the game completely.
Steins;Gate: My Darling’s Embrace was previously released in Japan in 2011. It was later released on a variety of platforms but only in Japanese. It wasn’t until early December 2019 that English-readers in North America and Europe would experience the game.
If players are looking for a canon experience, Spike Chunsoft also digitally released Steins;Gate 0 today on PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
Gamers may wonder about why these games were announced without any formal announcement. There’s no information on why Spike Chunsoft suddenly decided to release these titles in North America and Europe without warning. Fans of the Steins;Gate series can feel happy that two more titles from the series have been released outside of Japan.
Steins;Gate: My Darling’s Embrace is now available for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch as digital-only titles. For one week, the game is available for a slight discount.
