In the wake of Silent Hill f’s release date reveal by Konami, the gamers are shedding tears. Darkers, scheduled to release on September 25, will unravel dark mysteries, coerce players into nightmare battles, and ultimately enact a choice over the fate of the protagonist Hinako. With an online pre-order available, the hype train is already on full steam ahead. It is not all smooth sailing, however, with numerous heated reactions from the community.
Opening the trailer gets the game being something between a Final Frame and the classic Silent Hill style of horror. Someone went as far as calling it the “Japanese version of Hell on Earth.” But the hype is huge; some say it might be the best horror game of the year. Of course, not everybody is happy; part of the community wanted a Silent Hill 1 remake, and the $70 price tag has been another irritation.
In matters of language support, there has been a barrage of criticism for ignoring Arabic and Turkish, with one disgruntled voice declaring, “Millions of Arab fans have supported this franchise for decades. You gave us horror and now you’ve become part of it.”
Potential Switch 2 owners have also asked if the game will be released for that console, to which a cynic replied: “Switch 2 can’t handle UE5.” Meanwhile, pro-hardcopy Brazilians are demanding that Konami releases hard copies for their region.
And then suddenly, eFootball before laid-back masochistic complaints enter the arena; meanwhile, Konami’s every reply is a roller coaster.
A little fuzzy reception, that is, but one thing’s clear: Ghosts of Past is well back in the limelight. Whether this will become a tangible reality or crash and burn will be determined by launch day. Till then, horror fans have spent the whole year itching for September 25.
Who’s got pre-orders? Better—who’s going to play this with the lights off?
