The Sea of Thieves communities are, to say the least, a silly lot of people. One such lot of people thought to bestow upon all a hilarious petition to rename one of the more enigmatic items in the game. The official Sea of Thieves Twitter account gave a little smirk and in good humor requested that the “Box of Wondrous Secrets” be renamed to “Box of Friends,” after which the players piled on with their own silly suggestions.
What is this box? For the few who have never stumbled upon it, the Box of Wondrous Secrets is a rare treasure that lies hidden somewhere in Devil’s Roar. It will get a huge price in gold; however, for pirates of that type, the name might just not be appealing enough. And the original tweet: “Petition to rename it the Box of Friends. Please sign below.” And oh, the responses!
First of all: Kris Adolfsen (@KAdolfsen) chiming in with, “I think you should name it Boner in a Box.” Yeah, that probably won’t fly with Rare’s naming policy, but I’ll give him points for creativity. Then, @KingTrashPossum presented the hilarious idea that the name “Bone Buddy Box” was right there, and somehow it got overlooked.
But there are more. @DrRyeBourbonMD chimed in suggesting “Box of Bonafide Buds,” while @Scaveets went straight for the anatomy with “Chest of Calcium,” because, you know, bones. And let’s not forget about @hoodeezbox, who went with “Bone Bounty” for some insane reason. The chaos behind these names is exactly why the Sea of Thieves community is one of the most fun to hang out with.
However, not everyone found it gut-busting. @ESoulreflection used the chance to vent their fury against the calling of the game “overpriced” and accusing Rare of “bait & switch” tactics. Gross! At the same time, @mdjpgdhpxq completely ignored the fun stuff to inquire about when the 110 FOV update was coming out. Priorities much?
The best and most entertaining comment in all the thread has to be @Fishhook_Cook’s suggestion for a mechanic to “cleanse it and release their spirits to fight for you.” Now, imagine 100 ghostly allies descending upon your enemies in the midst of battle-what a change!
On top of that, @TravIsGaming97 would take it one step further by proposing that the Box of Wondrous Secrets spawn friendly Ashen Lords, because that definitely needs even more chaos, right?
At the end of the day, this thread is yet another reminder of just how creative (and insane) the Sea of Thieves community can be. Any guess as to whether Rare will ever consider actually picking up one of these name changes? Probably not; for the time being, however, the Box of Wondrous Secrets is… well, wondrous. With barely any friends around.
