Street Fighter 6 has launched on the Switch 2 and is bringing a serious boom to things. Crossplay? Yes. New Gyro Battle and Calorie Contest modes? Yup. Local wireless and amiibo support? That’s right; a Capcom fighting game suddenly is creating all the buzz and getting every reaction under the sun—hype, salty and chaotic reply-gang fun.

Not to mention, the Switch 2 version is just packed. The crossplay lets you throw hands against other guys on other platforms, and that’s big for the fighting game community. No more tiny little puddles of Switch-only warriors. Then there’s Gyro Battle, a.k.a. motion-control madness, and Calorie Contest…? Nobody really knows what it is yet, but it sure has people talking. And of course, amiibo support, so if you just want to tap your figures or cards for goodies, some people definitely aren’t happy about it.

Replies to Capcom’s announcement tweet are a real roller coaster. Some players are already deep into the trenches with @icysplash315 main-ing Elena, and loving it while @VaporSoup7 is too busy reminiscing about CVS1 days to pay any heed. Then, @EsteliArecibo is begging Capcom to patch out the polyamorous character line before buying it for their kids. That’s just the kind of thread that will entertain and amuse you.

The amiibo drama, it does exist. @TechParadox blamed scalpers for hoarding all the figures and cards, while @CinnamonPep pointed out the price of an amiibo itself is about the price of the base game. Ouch. Alongside this, @JaggedRoman chimed in, saying it was straight up too much money at $40, and honestly? He has a point.

But no one really wants to gripe about it. @ChrisFCB_ said it was the “best version of SF6.” @seanie103 is enjoying all the “very good” competition. Then there’s @OGNickgurr, hyped yet pragmatic, joking that they’re going to use their old Pro Controller instead of forking out for the new gear. Smart move, indeed.

Local wireless is a wild card about that. Sitting on a train, challenging random strangers to a match without Wi-Fi? Now, that’s the dream! Unless, of course, @_JoyFK_ has been traumatised through laggy Wi-Fi connections. @DarkHado69 clapped back on netcode’s being solid all-around this time.

And really, things go chaotic with random spats, like @KahunaCilver520 and @TRIPSTER0 arguing about the game looking blurry (it doesn’t), or @Nubriko trolling a poor sod over buying a Switch 2. Classic gaming-Twitter, that.

So what’s the verdict? Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2, the biggie in this, is really bridging the divide between platforms thanks to crossplay. Those new modes, they are wonderfully weird, and the core game is scoring high while warring with brutal amiibo prices. We excuse ourselves for some Gyro Battles.
