Whether they’re ecstatic or baffled about the announcement, it has created quite a craze in the player community: an in-game concert event starring Sabrina Carpenter will be accompanied by a brand-new game mode! Running from May 30 to June 16, the event allows players to dance and fill a heart meter, with the best dancers earning a chance to hit the virtual stage and get a picture together with Sabrina.
But, somehow, not everybody is jumping for excitement. The event announcement tweet sparked mixed reactions. Some players were describing their joys surrounding the takeover of the pop star, while others weren’t exactly rushing for the ticket booth.
One of the most frequently heard gripes? The glaring omission of such an event for Hatsune Miku, who had a cosplay in Fortnite not too long ago but didn’t receive this much fanfare. “Miku got treated unfairly,” said @blockxs, trying to encapsulate the feeling echoed in a number of replies. Others, such as @Switched_sweat, asked flatly, “So she gets this, but Miku got nothing special??”
There might also be a category of folks that remains confused, as suggested with “@TheDemon_Power” asking, “Wait, this isn’t just a concert? Is an actual new game mode?” Yes, it is indeed a fully interactive experience, and an immersive concert-actual-show would only be half of the title. Players will need to dredge up some superb dance moves to climb the leaderboard and let the best dancers out of eager anticipation to the coveted backstage pass.
If something stands in opposition with alike opinions: “This is trash. 🗑️,” stated @MerryMetaX, while @RegiTailsor wanted to be even more blunt: “This has to be the most pointless event ever just delete the game already.” Ouch.
And for all the Sabrina stans… they’ve already got so much going for them. “THIS SOUNDS SO FUN OMFG,” screamed @iThinkSamKnows, shared also by @MellRomao with, “LIKE LIKE 🥰.” Meanwhile, @slycorddd is already plotting: “Im gonna griddy my way to the top.”
There is also a shop bundle associated with the event, sporting Sabrina-themed cosmetics: an outfit, backbling, and a mic-themed contrail. So whether one dives into the rhythm game madness for fun or for flexing, there’s something for everyone.
Still, the Miku comparisons will continue. “And why didn’t Miku get any of this,” tweeted @wwrenfry, dropping a facepalm emoji. Fair question, especially considering Miku’s collab was strictly cosmetic, and she doesn’t quite have the interactive flair that Sabrina’s getting.
This is just one of many wacky collaborations Fortnite has pulled off, with this one splitting opinions. Some see it as a nice twist on the in-game concert theme, and others are just ready for the next.
Are you in for logging in and dancing your heart out? Or one event you’re going to pass off? Either way, Sabrina will be taking the center stage-literally-and Fortnite has never been so unpredictable.
For those still mad about Miku… well, maybe next time.
