This is news that Ubisoft has just made the biggest for fans of tactical. Released alongside the announcement by Ubisoft themselves over their Twitter account was, “Major upgrades, fresh game mode, and much more.” However, social media, together with the gamers, has been rather non-committal about it. Mixed emotions indeed; some are excited, others simply salty or are whining for Splinter Cell.

So what is new in Siege X? Well, Ubisoft quite honestly hasn’t said much, but the very fact that one has free access may imply that they have played the top card, the big guns! “Major upgrades” in the same tweet might mean anything from graphical updates to gameplay tweaks. And new mode? Well, no clues yet, but Siege players are already debating if it will be revamped Terrorist Hunt (which the fans have been screaming for) or completely different.

However, not everybody is happy, truth be told. Replies on the tweet range from pure enthusiasm to evil rage. One response came from Agent_Dell: Basically, he wants the Rainbow Six Vegas campaign back; multiplayer gets old pretty fast. TheOldLeviathan, on the other hand, said simply: “Not a real Rainbow 6 game.” Ouch. Then, of course, there are the rest who want Splinter Cell news (I feel you, Rafael Almanza).

Technical problems came right away as well. Download error reports came in from players like Smoke_T9 and DwanDwan_; Adam Kettlewell and cokemoloot couldn’t even jump into multiplayer. Prokurator said: “In-game servers are down but the website says everything’s fine. Fuckass game.” Brutal but fair.

However, a select few are genuinely excited. NorkDorf Entertainment expressed its lust for the new mode as “an adventure waiting to unfold.” Free entry means new players can boot it without paying a single cent, but long-time fans like Vance1822275 begin to wonder if they will get some perks for being early buyers.

Then there are those weird, out-of-place crypto-bros randomly promoting $GTA in the replies. Weird, but sure, why not.

So what is that glittering whisper? Rainbow Six Siege X is trying to shake things up. But so far, it has received a mixed reception. For those who want to try it out, free access started immediately. Just maybe just wait a bit for them to get their servers up and running. As for Splinter Cell… keep on wondering.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft has a couple of fires to put out—both game-wise and reply-wise. Let’s hope “major upgrades” means literally getting anything fixed, starting with the servers.
