The latest game mode for Overwatch 2, Stadium, is stirring the pot for very good, very chaotic, and very nasty reasons. The official twitter account of Overwatch has drawn several reactions from famous creators like Flats, Emongg, and KarQ, calling everyone who hasn’t yet gotten it to put it on his/her must-play for season 16. Naturally, replies to this one became a battleground of memes, opinions, and of course, a bit of Marvel Rivals beef.”
Stadium itself seems to be a huge hit among players. MikeBlueMarlin summed it well up, “Can honestly say Stadium is the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Chaotic but in a good way.” Quite a compliment for a mode that tries to throw perks into one hand and talent into the other, and utter chaos altogether. Christian/Chris pointed out something pretty cool, that talents differ from perks in that you can choose your order of talents during game time in Stadium.
But this is exactly the point: Not everybody would appreciate that chaos. Christine, aka Italiangrl25c, called it firmly a “headache,” with a complaint about OP perks and leavers ruining the ranked grind. On the other hand, ShakespeareFPS was complaining about his main hero being banned in ranked and begging Blizzard to throw the whole roster into Stadium straight away.
And the drama! Some fans could just not hold themselves away from talking about Marvel Rivals in the chat: According to Lieutenant Titus, “All of this wouldn’t happen with Marvel Rivals.” That opened the venue for an entirely different thread of argument in which AmbitiousEnvelope395 reacted with: “Genuinely watch gameplay of this mode… and then tell me they made this in response to MR.”
The argument got rough enough for Roddy Burrows to come in and defend the creators for being fond of both games, “He’s critical of both when he feels it’s warranted and praises both when deserved.”
And, of course, poor old gremlins with farted Twitter keys. Arthur was ethered in salt: “Remember: Those who criticized the game aren’t allowed to be featured creators.” GHERE2EASEUS laughed heartily, saying the featured creators signed “contracts with the Yankees.”
At this point, once again, Stadium seems to be stirring up controversy as well as excitement in Overwatch 2. Whether you enjoy or feel overloaded with a little bit of chaos, it is obvious that Blizzard certainly knows how to create conversation. Now if they could just shoring-up these leavers…
