Just a day ago, Bethesda tweeted something mysterious that has Elder Scrolls fans buzzing and screaming internally. A strange portal appeared in Niben Bay and ominously warned, “I’d stay back from that door if I were you. Nothing that’s gone in has come out right.” Gaius Prentus must surely have signed this one, translating to the classic Elder Scrolls weirdness if there ever was one. While some of the fans are excitedly celebrating, the rest are using this moment to spew out vitriol for the performance issues. The usual Bethesda moment, honestly.

First, the fun bit. The portal tease had people speculating wildly. A sign for some new DLC? A callback to the Shivering Isles expansion from original Oblivion? Or, much bigger, at least a lead-in to an Oblivion remaster? AlxVeNtUs mentioned Shivering Isles DLC, saying, “So good! I remember becoming Sheogorath.” Then there came the call, “More Skooma in the expansion please”—of course. PinkPariahx joked something about avoiding level 20 spoilers. There is hype, albeit vague, though.

Then the flipside. There are many replies begging Bethesda for bug fixes. There are a lot! User CogitoErgoCode went on a rant for several tweets, stating their game crashes every time during save. “My game save is unplayable due to crashes upon trying to save any progress,” they said. Others followed suit with their complaints-Gezforce says about crashes when paralyzing enemies with a bow, and then CryptoGakey outright blames Bethesda for “celebrating a game that can’t run for more than 2 hours without crashing on the highest end PC.” Ouch.

Some aren’t safe even on PS5. _Muskett_ is reporting frequent crashes, while CosmoTheWiz might be trying to brainstorm with another user by suggesting that their PS5 might be “shot.” (Spoiler alert: it probably isn’t.) Deep-rooted frustration ensues, especially lately with the release of Oblivion Remastered. Fans like queito and bitraxius are flat-out asking, “Anything for performance and bug fix?”

And then there are random requests. _Muskett_ wants survival mode like Skyrim with cooking. WolfKnightGuts wishes for a physical edition to “appear in the Niben Bay.” And mpetros9… well, they asked if there’s “gender reassignment surgeons in there.” That’s a different story.

So yeah, that portal is cool. The vibes are mysterious. But the real story may still be that Bethesda will have to put some fires out before fans can actually embrace what this landscaping is leading towards. Will they fix these crashes? Is this portal leading to something really cool? Or just another glitched-out mess? We’ll find out with time and maybe a few more patches.

Until then, if you are walking into Niben Bay. Please save often. Like really often. Just in case.
