The great barrier has officially been breached for Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, with the game surpassing 10 million units worldwide. It was none other than Director Suzuki who took to the Twitterverse, thanking the players for their support. Ten million is huge for an expansion, even with a competitive franchise such as Monster Hunter.
While the celebrations are already taking place, replies under Suzuki’s tweet tell a whole different story-a story of demand, nostalgia, and, dare I say, some comparisons to the recently revealed Monster Hunter Wilds.
First and foremost, much love must be shown to the Sunbreak designers. Players are thanking Sunbreak for their best-ever Monster Hunter experience for Sunbreak combat, monsters like Malzeno and Goss Harag, and the Elgado environment. One fan even stated that it is his first-ever Monster Hunter ever-ever, and that is insane considering how much the series has. Another player even outright said “thank you, Suzuki,” for creating the greatest dragon to ever exist—and we all know that must be Primordial Malzeno.
Then… Switch 2. Many responses ask Capcom to patch Sunbreak for 60fps on Switch 2. Possibly Generations Ultimate for older titles as well. The implication is that they love Sunbreak, but they are yearning for that next-gen performance boost.
And, oh boy, Wilds… That’s another situation altogether. Some fans hold no punches calling Wilds “gay childish trash” (yikes), while others insist that Sunbreak combat is still the best Monster Hunter.” There’s even the crazy back and forth of “should we compare base Rise with Sunbreak” which… really? They’re literally the same game, one is an expansion.”
Amidst the chaos in the conversations, the general air is one of appreciation. Memories of times with Sunbreak are being brought up as well as favorite moments being shared along with asking for help with beating Primordial Malzeno (good luck with that, by the way).
And now? Well, Sunbreak 2 looks unlikely anytime soon with Wilds making its way into existence. But if Capcom is wise, it would really want to listen to its players asking for that Switch 2 upgrade. Because, seriously, Sunbreak at 60fps would be chef’s kiss.
For now, congrats to Suzuki and his team. Ten million is one big win to keep up with, especially when newer and newer Monster Hunter games keep coming down the line, Sunbreak retains a place in the hearts of its collective players. Now, about that patch…
