An Attitude Update 2.5 was recently dropped for Marvel Rivals, titled Ultron’s Invasion. For the next limited-time period, players just have to put in some time in the game and they can get their hands on the Ultron Avatar Decoration through Discord. The event started on May 30 and will end on June 6, thus giving players exactly a week to collect this new skin. Yet, while the devs attempted to stir up the hype for the new content on every other social media platform, the community feedback is sort of… in the middle.

Breaking down the actual event: Start up Marvel Rivals, keep Discord open, play the game for 15 minutes. That’s all; no crazy challenges or grinding—show up, play a couple of matches, and grab the new Ultron avatar to flex with the homies. Simple enough, yeah? Well, this obvious simplicity is what’s actually causing half of the responses to the tweet announcing the event to be a mixture of complaints and frustrations and some very passionate opinions about the state of the game.

What is a huge gripe here? Probably the character himself, Ultron. He has been called anything from “the worst released character to date” to a deliberate “troll pick.” User @unnassertive did not hold back, tweeting, “All the waiting and hype over social media for this character to be like this really sucked. pls fix ik you guys are capable.” Ouch. Others like @rhennsy complained about his playstyle, saying he “steals MVPs” by dropping drones on DPS characters and ignoring the teammates who actually need healing. Pretty much not really the support experience the players were hoping for, are they?

Then comes Jeff. Ohhhh, Jeff. If Ultron is getting roasted, then Jeff is being fried in the replies. Many players are begging the devs to “fix Jeff,” while @JuanBarfield1 said, “Nobody cares the character’s trash 🤷🏽‍♂️Fix Jeff.” Seems like this poor guy’s been through the wringer with balance changes, and the community has had enough. @BubsM814772 went as far as saying, “I’ve never been so mad at a video game company in my life. Save Jeff.” Damn. That’s some serious emotional investment right there.

But that is not setting all the reasons players have complaints. The competitive matchmaking system is taken down just as much in the replies. @moist_irl straight-up demanded, “Fix your horrendous competitive matchmaking system,” while @TRAD3S_ warned, “Your terrible matchmaking will be the death of this game.” Yikes. Then @savetheking45 did an insult on their own by saying, “I login to Overwatch and I win games?” Oof That has got to sting.

And that’s just from the tanks. @HoodieBandemic captures their rage well: “literally cant do anything as a tank main this season. thanks netease. 👍” Meanwhile, @unown24 is furious about the daily cap on War Chest, saying, “Who the hell thought of that? Let me unlock everything not this weird daily cap!!” So yeah. Between Ultron’s questionable design, the nerfs to Jeff, and outright broken matchmaking, the opening days of Season 2.5 have been legitimately rough.

On the flipside, some users seem actually to like it. @primalsabre enters the chat with, “Don’t listen to the bots, great update,” and defending Ultron: “All these bots complaining about Ultrons healing is hilarious 💀😂 he has good healing, yall just suck.” So is that perspective, I guess? Either way, the event is now live, rewards are on offer, and no one could deny that this community is passionate, no matter whether you love or hate Marvel Rivals right now. If you’ll excuse me, I have 15 minutes to binge for the Ultron avatar. “Troll Pick” he might be called, though.
