NetEase had leaked the first teaser about Magneto’s Binary Sword costume for Marvel Rivals Season 2, and the response has been, well, every emotion that the community has felt. When the Combat Chest event goes live on May 30, the Master of Magnetism will get an edgy new look and some snazy voice lines about saving Arakko from Ultron’s invasion. On one hand, the people are ready to throw money at that screen, while on the other hand, the announcement becomes a platform to air every grievance they’ve ever had against the game. I guess that is just what old-school gamers do.
Now, before anything else, clean up that Magneto drip because, God, this design goes hard. This Binary Sword Costume leaked as an original design rather than something plucked straight from comics, with the player JBL Quantum screaming, “NetEase have outdone themselves fr.” The excitement sparkled even among those who don’t play Magneto, as historia reiss would tweet: “dude i dont even play magneto, but I’ll buy this day one!” The power of a sick cosmetic means that people end up paying for characters they don’t even pray for.
But, if not followed by an avalanche of salt in the replies, it wouldn’t be an announcement worth noting. The players let everything out to NetEase:
Here we go with the matchmaking complaints? Check. Moist_irl spouts: “Fix your horrendous competitive matchmaking system” while MitoIsDum8 simply implores, “Yoo, can you guy’s fix your matchmaking, thank you!” The pain is that real.
Balance pleas? Of course. RikuWay2dawn pleads, “Nerf lock on characters like Wanda,” while others discuss Thor reworks and Black Panther buffs—the eternal cycle of “My main got nerfed” tears.
Battle pass? Yeah, they hated on that, too. Keibara was going IN with “You’re ripping off players. We pay for a premium pass, but we only get two missions per day. Ridiculously low.” Meanwhile, Tyler Kilgore is stuck on some weird mission progression glitched trying to unlock the Patch Wolverine skin.
And those classic “add my fave character” requests. 84sshxwn is campaigning hard for Sabretooth: “please give him the ability to wall crawl and a leap similar to Wolvies.” Never change, gamers. Never change.
And the most intriguing part? Despite all the complaints, the good part is that people are invested. Players writing paragraphs about Ultron kit suggestions (shoutout to Joshua Phillips for the detailed drone healing idea) and are debating ranked play features is a form of proof that Marvel Rivals truly has potential. Even the angry players keep playing; that’s the real magic of live service games.
But are those new threads really going to calm things down? Nah, not for long. Yet, May 30th will finally give the players time to check out the Binary Sword Costume… after which they will continue glaring at matchmaking for a whole new chapter. Some things never change.
