Delfino Plaza is instantly recognizable to gamers who enjoyed Super Mario Sunshine on the Nintendo GameCube. This game hub quickly grew to iconic status among fans, so much so that someone decided that it would be really fun to skateboard around it.

A fan of both Super Mario Sunshine and Tony Hawk Pro Skater decided that the two just had to come together, creating a custom Delfino Plaza as a fan-made map in the epic skating game.

This all came from the mind and efforts of Redditor Gunderstank16, who is a super fan of Super Mario Sunshine. The creator shared his creation via YouTube. The video shows off the totally recreated tropical paradise of Delfino Plaza, which he designed using the Create a Park function in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 Remaster that recently released.

“Been playing a lot of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and Super Mario 3D All Stars back to back,” he said in the video’s description. “Figured I’d mess around in the editor for a while and see if I could actually remake Delfino Plaza from Super Mario Sunshine.”

It appears to be a very accurate recreation. The video shows off a character dressed as Mario skating and grinding all over Delfino Plaza, in a manner that would have been a lot of fun to try during Super Mario Sunshine.

The video is just over a minute long and as of this writing has been viewed over 19,700 times.

Of course, this crossover is very timely, given the recent remastering of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. That series, which was hugely popular in the late 90s and 2000s, is having a renaissance now in 2020 as new fans discover it for the first time and older fans recapture that nostalgic rush.

Super Mario Sunshine is also more relevant now than it has been in a long time. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise, Nintendo has released Super Mario 3D All Stars.

This mash up collects three Mario games from the early days of 3D gaming. Super Mario Sunshine is also joined by Super Mario 64 from the Nintendo 64 and Super Mario Galaxy from the Nintendo Wii.

Super Mario 3D All Stars is only going to be available for a limited time on the Nintendo Switch. In a move that many found to be surprising, Nintendo announced that the game collection would only be around until March of 2021.

Super Mario 3D All Stars and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 are both currently available.
