Now coming to the latest: Grand Theft Auto hype has gone to its peak, and bonkers theories are being projected by the fans. Some claim Rockstar might outdo everybody by resurrecting Liberty City as one of the playable maps in the next Grand Theft Auto. Yes, you heard that right. The very same Liberty City from GTA IV, but with next-gen graphics only GTA 6 could muster. Frankly, people are just going crazy at the very suggestion.

The tweet from NikTekOfficial that started the speculation said, “The biggest surprise Rockstar Games can pull off with GTA 6 is having Liberty City as a playable map during a section of the game.” The follow-up tweet read, “I would love to see how a modernized version of Liberty City would actually look like with GTA 6 Graphics!” Then the replies took off-hopeful, skeptical, and downright chaotic.

Now, let’s talk about the believers. So-called followers believe that Rockstar has been secretly working on a Liberty City expansion all this time. One user, enigmoron, argued that when the GTA V source code got leaked, files came into the public domain suggesting that Rockstar had planned a Liberty City DLC for a while but finally scrapped it.

So, maybe they resurrected it once again for GTA 6? Possibly. Others such as Jason6_VI2026 believe Liberty City would appear as a prologue mission or a full DLC at some point down the line. I mean, if assets exist, why not.

Here’s the other side-to put forward another opinion: Demoralized2020 came back hard, “It’s not going to happen. The entire city would have to be redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up. Way too much wishful thinking.”

Well, there’s a point to ponder: Liberty City of GTA IV was designed for Xbox 360 and PS3. Putting that into the GTA 6 engine would largely mean a complete remake of everything: textures, lighting, physics, the whole shebang. It’s an enormous task even for Rockstar.

And here are those who believe Liberty City will be present but simply not insofar as the fans imagine. Chel (ghenaxgg) stated it might only ever be accessible in GTA Online, or perhaps as a very limited single-player A-OK to how San Andreas let you visit Liberty City for just one mission.

Others, like StealyW48099, said that since they add Liberty City, it has to be scaled to the size of GTA 6’s map and so the whole thing must be rebuilt anyway. So that, yes…complicated.

And let’s not forget about the conspiracy theorists. Some fans think that Rockstar’s latest shutdown of a Liberty City mod for GTA V might be some sort of version-announcement. “Maybe that’s why they banned the Liberty City mod on GTA V,” said Lazyx_Nat. Are Rockstar protecting their future plans? Or were they just typical Rockstar.

But the fact remains that nobody knows. Rockstar is so discreet, and GTA 6 is but a chimera. But one thing is for sure: the fans want to see Liberty City back! Whether or not it will happen will not slow the hype train down. And, honestly, that’s half the fun in waiting for a new GTA: insane theories, heated debates, and all that chaos.

Will Liberty City be in GTA 6? Maybe. Maybe not. The one thing we can guarantee: Rockstar has everybody talking-about-it and just how they like it.
