The subject of backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 5 has created a lot of conversation since the console was first announced. We now know, thanks to some confirmation from Sony, that 99% of the PlayStation 4’s game library will be compatible with the next generation console.

One of those games, unsurprisingly, will be the smash hit PlayStation exclusive Ghost of Tsushima. What’s more, the game will run at 60FPS on the new console. Players will even be able to transfer their saved game over from the PlayStation 4 so that they won’t have to start all over again on a new platform.

This was confirmed by Super Punch Productions, the developer of the game, via its official Twitter account.

“Ghost of Tsushima will be playable on PS5 on day one via backward compatibility,” Sucker Punch said in the tweet, “and you’ll be able to transfer your save from PS4 to pick up where you left off.”

In a follow up tweet, Sucker Punch went on to say, “PS5 owners playing with Game Boost will see an extra option to allow frame rates up to 60FPS, and while loading speeds on the PS4 are already great, just wait until you see them on the PS5.”

Of course, this shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. Ghost of Tsushima was one of the last major releases for the PlayStation 4, so it seemed obvious to most that it would be developed with PlayStation 5 support in mind.

The game was an instant smash success for Sony, which already has the most impressive line up of successful exclusives in the modern gaming world. You have God of War, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, Uncharted, and many others. Not to mention exclusivity periods for games like Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Now, this feudal Japan era samurai adventure has captured the gaming world’s collective imagination, with many pointing to this game’s deep story and stunning visuals as a major triumph for the company.

It quickly rocketed to the top of the sales charts, becoming the fastest selling new IP in the history of the PlayStation 4.

This week, Ghost of Tsushima will be getting a major update, which will add the much requested New Game+ mode to the single player campaign. On top of this, it will also add Ghost of Tsushima Legends, which is a four player co-op multiplayer mode that is rooted in Japanese mythology.
