About those missions that make one want to hurl a controller through the TV; well, we’ve all been there. The best gaming missions, or rather, the worst gaming missions, were debated in a raging set of responses on Twitter thanks to NikTek. The thread was fueled by fury and nostalgia: the Supply Lines from GTA, the baby-level from Max Payne.

Let’s go with the classics. The San Andreas Supply Lines mission was brought up more than once, which was justified. Try holding down an RC plane that was awkward in both controls and design, all while remembering to conserve fuel-and there you are just testing the thin line of patience-most people would just fail it. DJFingers9 says it best: “Come to think of it, I hated all of that dude’s missions in SA.” Well, I feel the same way.

Then we have the Zero missions for Vice City GTA. Serajeddine95 did not hold back: “Freaking Zero missions all of them not just this lol.” That RC helicopter mission had to be the most painful for players; the challenge would either build someone’s spirit of steel to conquer or else break him down into giving up in scorn. Some, like RedBSierra, also claim that it was not hard—they are lying, and everyone knows it, just so they can look cool.

It was not just GTA that was lambasted with criticism. The Baby Level from Max Payne had to show up, courtesy of leansalesman. That was a real psychological trip: a blurring of horror and platforming, and it still haunts a lot of players to this day. Do not even get me started about the Storm Mission from Kingdom Come: Deliverance; _darkk_knightt_ called it out twice, stating that it very well could make it on the list.

There were issues with Assassin’s Creed 4, too, Jxxxxx024 calling out a fairly painful naval mission. And then we cannot leave out Far Cry 3’s weed burning! kab0shi best summed this one with a single rage-infused tweet.

It went all the way back for those early Driver-classics: The infamously painful test mission from Driver. Doze_D threw all of the Driver series into the mix just reminding us once more of how unforgiving those early driving games were. For RPGs, there was the Water Temple from Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which DarioAlexander1 lamented about.

For some, there were also missions that divided opinion. Whatafak15 said that the RC helicopter mission in Vice City “isn’t that hard” but one of the few who admitted being stuck on it for ages was BlazeInferno360. Then we get that oddly specific hate for Ace Combat 7’s payout-collecting missions, courtesy of jackpajaro115.

The conversation even went into the realms of modern-day gaming, where synticat0r complained about the whole planet of Zeffo in Jedi: Fallen Order being frustrating. In the honor of bad mission gags that just keep on going in 2023 was TRX9800_’s mention of Rescue ULP on GTA Online.

The takeaway here? Every gamer has that one mission they will never-for all the wrong reasons-remember. These are missions that linger in one’s mind because of clunky control, unfair difficulty, or just plain weird design. And really, that is some bit of the fun. Rage at the game, conquer it, and mock it for years-a rite of passage.

Please, for your good, make sure to miss none of it. The entire thread is hilarious from memory and will perhaps serve as a warning never to replay a few of these games. Unless you are a glutton for punishment; then, by all means, go for it.
