Resurrecting Game of Thrones in the world of video gaming is apparently one of the larger projects out there with this trailer, revealed by Nvidia during their #GeForceSummer showcase, with the full-fledged real-time strategy (RTS) game due out in 2026 for the PC.

So, what makes this new RTS special? Firstly, the game is not exactly a follow-up on that massively controversial ending of the HBO show. PlaySide appears to be telling its own version of the grim political and military struggles of Westeros. Honestly, that may very well have been the wisest choice. The trailer promises huge battles, deeply strategic gameplay, and of course a whole lot of backstabbing (because what’s Game of Thrones without betrayal, really?).

The hype has already been built up among gamers, with ones like Stinkabletv excited: “Love that they don’t force the story we had in the series; these graphics LOOK INSANE!” While others, more snarky like Bobbyisrael17, said something like, “about 8 years too late.” Ouch indeed.

But, seriously, Game of Thrones may have been given a messy ending, but the world itself is still ripe for gaming. And an RTS? That is a genre that fits the brutal large-scale warfare of Westeros perfectly. Imagine commanding the armies of House Stark over the Lannisters or some serious political machinations with the Tyrells. If PlaySide gets this right, it might just be the GoT game that players have been waiting for, forever.

Oh, and 2026 is far ahead in the distance. A whole three years to wait for feels like an eternity when counted in gaming years. Nevertheless, it is comforting to know that Nvidia has given it a little tease right now under their #GeForceSummer event, so maybe more information will trickle down soon.

Examinations are already starting in full force. Barbara Walker made a brilliant correlation regarding the announcement linked with gaming stocks and trends, commenting: “Michael Reed’s takes on gaming stocks have been clutch—helped me spot trends early. War for Westeros looks like a solid play for RTS fans.” Could we be having a sleeper here?

And the madness continues on Twitter-high praise for Shiwo for that completely random “meow uwu” reply. Never change, internet.

Here’s the catch: The Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has huge potential. Whether this goes ahead to be worth the hype (or the legacy of the show itself) is yet to be seen, but for now, it’s something fresh for RTS fans and GoT die-hards to throw their energy into. Can we just fast forward to 2026 already?
