Tanks? Always the one to be blamed. This is a very Overwatch way to think. But the moment the official Overwatch Twitter tweeted a meme ridiculing the Lucio mains for their wild speed-boosting antics, one thing was very clear: the replies would be crazy. And they really were.
The clip of Lucio doing his thing (read: gallivanting around while the tank takes heat) was captioned, “Blaming the Tank is crazy work 🐸💥,” and backlash ensued immediately. Responses were flooded with demands for new skins, debate over who to really blame for losing a match.
Some players really took this personally. @Rai__YT bluntly stated, “Every Lucio I get on my team never heals and just throws my match or trolls. Ban them all.” Yikes. Conversely, @SamTheLucioFan responded, “Lucio slander on the official OW page. I’m gonna be sickkkk.” Ever seen drama?
However, that’s just one angle to this. Some of those were pure gold. @AllanLugo93 said, “It could also be a failed rollout by a Doomfist and he blames the supports 😂,” while @Boostmetax succinctly encapsulated the entire Lucio experience: “Lúcio mains be zoomin’ while tanks take the heat 😂.”
One thing is sure with Overwatch Twitter, skin requests will follow. Well, a few replies demanded that the skin be given to Lucio, including one from @StarryTheFurry. On the other hand, @TeddyGracee went off tangentially on the return of old battle pass cosmetics, such as Snow Angel Mercy. (Blizzard, take a lesson from this one; they own a business degree in FOMO.)
Then there were the Frogger mentions. So many. Frogger is by far GC’s renowned Lucio main with the infamous wall-riding skills. So the moment the official account unleashed the clip, players just couldn’t stop tagging him: “FROGGERRR we are looking at you buddy xoxo 😘🤍” (kudos to @MariaTheEditor for that).
But the question is—why is the tank player always the scapegoat? @godflict mentions, “Tank still gets banned for saying anything back,” which… fair enough. Then, @EdgyBirds imparted some home truths with, “It’s normal more often than not a support diff that determines a match.” Oof.
This definitely said one thing about the tweet: Overwatch players are passionate, petty, and funny. From a Lucio main living chaos to a tank player tired of blame, one thing is sure: The community will still be talking about this for some time.
The ones who really caused the mess. Was it the tank? The supports? The DPS unwilling to switch off Genji? Honestly, at this point, probably Sombra’s fault. (Thank you for that spicy hot take, @_PNTO_.)
Anyway, if you ever found yourself in a match when the blame game took over… yikes, this tweet was for you. Go tag your favorite or least favorite Lucio main for all the mischief.🐸💨
