This Star Wars-themed season in Fortnite will come to an end in less than two weeks. The reactions? Well, they are all-in-between. Some say good riddance; others seemed to be lamenting its demise, and still others are secretly thinking how on earth they missed all that hype about it.
For starters, the announcement wasn’t anything fancy-a plain simple tweet with a countdown timer and an eye emoji. But oh boy, the replies? Pandemonium. Players were begging for the season to end ASAP, considering it a cash grab or just a filler season while others would defend the season, saying that they appreciate Star Wars content and are saddened to see it come to an end. And then there’s that one guy-who’s probably thankful that the season finally existed at all-goes into a frenzy having just realized he never played it. Classic.
So why the mixed reactions? From what the replies say, a lot of players think this season was just a repeat of previous Star Wars collabs. “They’ve done Star Wars like 5 other times before,” said one user to me while other users who were trashing the battle pass were claiming there was only one good skin and the rest were mashed up together to steer players to the item shop. Ouch.
But there is not all hate out. Some fans indeed have a lot of fun, especially the hardcore Star Wars ones. “I love this season. I’m a big Star Wars fan,” one player tweeted. And come on, it is just fun to run around in Fortnite with lightsabers and blasters, even if it is not for everyone.
Then, there’s the other gripe about gameplay. Some said the weapons were “stupid,” complaining about how one could not take hitscan mechanics seriously. Others opined that this season’s content should have come in the form of a week-long event and not a proper season. Not to mention the “blasters only” mode, which apparently is some kind of nightmare for a good number of people.
Speaking of which, Fortnite seasons are always a little divisive. Remember the Marvel season? Some players loved it, some called it a cash grab. The demon-slaying season. The car season. And pretty much every other thematic update. That’s just how Fortnite rolls-Epic Games throws stuff at the wall and the community decides what sticks.
Anyways, looking ahead is a very good question. And if history is any indication, the next season will surely be polarizing. It could be another collab; it may be something completely new. Either way, opinions from the players act as a catalyst for it to be a repeat cycle.
So, whether you’re counting the days till this seasonal ends or desperately grinding out the last few steps of the battle pass, one thing everybody can surely agree on is that Fortnite keeps everyone entertained. And hey, at least we can all agree the next one can’t be worse than last year’s car season. Right? Right.
