Thus, here we are again: Updates for Fortnite could once more be delayed owing to the Epic Games vs. Apple neverending conflict. Epic said: “We have not received any news with respect to our Fortnite submission into the App Store, and so the update for Fortnite this Friday is rather seriously threatened.” And they mean that the entire update can be held hostage pending Apple’s refusal to let Fortnite get on iOS.

And, for those of you who may be wondering, this is absolutely not a patch with trivial fixes-this is the update bringing in General Grievous and everything else. The one we’ve been waiting for? The one that was promised for this week? Yeah, that one. And now corporate tug-of-war may mean it won’t be released on time.

Community reactions? Well, they are crazy. Some players are angry, others just seem to be tired of it, while others are begging Epic to just go around Apple and get the update released already. @_cyrus5 summed it up: “bro we don’t give a fuck about mobile players, let us have our update 😭.” Why are they so harsh? But seriously, can you really blame them after all the years of back-and-forth?

Some are just chuckling at the absurdity of the whole situation. @rubygirl8306 had an interesting thought: “It’s nice to see that they delayed a big update for the mobile community; it shows that Epic actually cares, but it’s also stupid because, knowing Apple, they could hold the game in review for days.” I mean, seriously. Apple has a reputation for desperately slow approval procedures, and Epic should have seen this coming.

On the other side is the legal aspect, and @RorschachZERO dropped the hammer: “Epic could get sued for giving false unlock dates on their PAID Battle Pass if this issue continues.” Yikes. Can you buy a Battle Pass and be left without any content because two tech giants cannot stop fighting?

Another critical fact to consider: Fortnite mobile players haven’t genuinely received an update since forever. The game was kicked out right in the Application Store in 2020 during the Epic v Apple litigation, and since then, mobile players live in a state of limbo. And now that Epic is finally trying to resuscitate Fortnite for iOS (thanks to the new EU regulations), they’re receiving a roadblock after roadblock.

So what comes next? Some fans propose Epic should push the update across other platforms and worry about Apple later. @KSN_Gaby nailed it: “Can’t they just delay their submission for now? There’s no need to deprive the game of new content in favor of one platform who hasn’t got any in years.” And honestly, that might just be the smartest thing to do.

Knowing Epic, though, I expect them to just stick to their guns and pursue that iOS return, even if it means the delays for everybody else. Because at this point, this isn’t about Fortnite anymore; it’s about sending a message.

Now, there is a very good chance that the update will go out tomorrow. Who knows. One thing’s for certain, though: this mess isn’t going to end anytime soon. So if you were hoping for General Grievous this week, well… it’s time to get ready for some disappointment.

For the time being, keep on eyeing Epic’s social media. Because one thing that this little fiasco has shown us is how fast this thing could either go one way or another. Or it could very well end up as stasis.
