Right alongside the update to the Crisis Core story, Square released Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis versions of Zack, Aerith, Angeal, and Sephiroth, and fans are going topsy-turvy over them. The mobile game is building further on the FF7 universe with these bite-sized chapters of story and news events, but the response so far has been… to say the least, lukewarm.

First thing first: the art style. Some are liking this art style and prefer to call it “very new and untraditional,” while others are waiting for a jukebox feature (Talk about throwing love for music in the trash!). For the rest of us, it’s really the story that counts. That latest Crisis Core update is packed with amazingly emotional moments, and the fans are already speculating about how it’s going to tie in with FF7 Remake Part 3.

Someone straight-up speculated that we’d see Zack’s death chibi form before that teaser to the next FF7R gets dropped. Agony! Well, it’s also sort of funny… Another group, meanwhile, is pleading with Square Enix to let Zack and Aerith have a happy ending in Part 3 after all their suffering.

Not entirely enamored; the gacha-style approach remains a detriment. “I’d love to keep playing, but the gacha is deeply annoying,” one player said. Another player refused outright and stated they’d rather wait for a YouTube recap than endure the grind. Then, of course, there are the bitter Opera Omnia refugees that still haven’t forgiven Square Enix for the closure of that game. Fair.

But you know, Crisis Core fans are getting the Royal treatment. “Crisis Core my beloved 😭❤️,” gushes one, while another is yelling “BABIESS!!” at the new character art. There’s genuine affection for these characters if not for the gameplay itself.

And moving on, let’s discuss the random prayers for a Dirge of Cerberus port on PS5. I mean, why not? At this point, just go for a remaster for every single FF7 spin-off.

What will they do after this? More Ever Crisis updates, probably. Possibly a fully-fledged game adaptation, if we’re lucky. Or another gut-wrenching scene with Zack: prices to tear us apart emotionally once again. Boredom? That’s an emotion that FF7 fans are not going to feel anytime soon.
