Yes, not long ago, Fortnite may have slipped a little and Star Wars fans are going crazy about it. The latest Star Wars collaboration involves an XP grind just to unlock the right to actually buy Darth Jar Jar in the Item Shop. Yes, you read that right. You must work for the privilege of spending your V-Bucks. And the internet went haywire.
Players earn XP by playing any mode of the Fortnite game so they get it into the player’s hands to purchase Darth Jar Jar. No XP? No Sith Lord. So easy. And the plot thickens-the skin can’t just be gifted free of charge. Instead, one pays for it after a grind. And that’s just made people mad.
Another user, @StarWarsIsNeato, had a full-blown rant: “Y’all really thought this would work out for you? I’m a die-hard Star Wars fan. I was so hyped for this season. You took away our movement, made the guns all suck, put POIs in the corners, and add the CHANCE to BUY Jar Jar? I’m actually done playing this game. You hate Star Wars.” Wow.
Another high-profile user went and questioned, @PerfectError11,”Whats the point in gaining xp if im just gonna have to buy the skin anyway?” Valid question. Like, why make players jump through hoops if they’re already willing to pay? It’s like being forced to run a marathon just to get into a store.
Here’s the best part; some people are actually loving this; @Themanbeastis9 revealed a screenshot for a fast and sneaky XP method, “if anyone wants to farm the xp mode to unlock the darth jar jar skin that’s lock behind the xp mission use this map and u will farm it faster use code1872 once timer goes to 0.” So, there are already some loopholes for those that grind. Classic Fortnite.
And then there is the whole afore-mentioned, “Is Jar Jar really a Sith Lord?” The official Fortnite twitter teased, “The theory remains…was he always a Sith Lord in disguise?” And for real? That’s probably the most interesting part of this entire thing. That meme has been going around forever, and now Epic is basically legitimizing that concept in half in Fortnite lore. Crazy.
People are raging by some degrees over a few aspects, with some others thrown into a whirl of confusion. @BLO0DYSMILES asked, “You have to EARN the right to buy him? Seriously?” while @EthanMQ;) lamented, “I can’t even get xp 😭 being employed sucks.” Mood.
Now down to them having plans to fix the damn game. @Hajaaakob was pissed: “Can yall focus on fixing the millions of bugs that arent fixed since months and more? Why can I shoot people through walls? Why is my gun automatically shooting if im not pressing? Why is my character manteling when im not pressing jump?” Thats all they’re asking for, right?
What verdict is to be given? Mixed. Some are really excited about Darth Jar Jar (because, let’s admit, it’s hilarious), but others are sick and tired of grinding to pay, and then there are those Star Wars purists who are just mad that Jar Jar is getting any attention at all.
At the end of the day, Fortnite’s just Fortnite. They know people will play, they know people will pay, and they know controversy drives engagement. So whether you love it or hate it, Darth Jar Jar is here to stay—if you’re willing to put in the work (and the cash).
If you’ll excuse me now, I’ll go on and grab some XP. Or take a nap. Decisions, decisions.
