With the latest update, Epic Games, in true Fortnite style, has seriously gone off the rails. Here comes Blitz Royale—a phrase I theoretically coined to explain how it’s the offspring of Battle Royale mixed with a Roguelike, and said offspring is simply broken. New medallions, power-ups every time, weekly updates, almost-bad-for-their-own-good loot of mythics and exotics? The mess-to-fun ratio will be off the charts.

The official Fortnite Twitter account teased the mode with a hype tweet, and people replied with all manners of excitement, confusion, and outright chaos. Some players are already begging for the mode to be made permanent, whereas others are still in mourning over Team Rumble (RIP). A player even joked hackers will probably be attracted to it, for where there is a new mode, there is bound to be someone trying to break it.

But really, why looking like some of the bonkers fun Fortnite hasn’t had in a while? Randomized power-ups and fresh loot every match mean that no two games ever share entirely the same gameplay experience. Just imagine the chaos from classic H1Z1 meeting the ever-evolving meta of Apex Legends and intersecting with the insanity of Fortnite-building. Hence and the promise of weekly updates, it is safe to say Epic is far from treating this like a throwaway LTM—this has to hit.

Sure, some hearts might not love it. There’s still salt for Team Rumble now being vaulted (Seriously, why remove more options?), with half the community joining the theory-craft train on secret skins or hidden mechanics. One reaction had even questioned if this was paving a path for a Logan Paul Icon skin—because why not? Fortnite’s collab game is already weird enough.

And loot pool? Wild loadout combinations will be back with mythics and exotics in full force. Imagine dropping in, grabbing a random mythic, and suddenly becoming an unstoppable force—only to get third-partied by somebody with an even crazier power-up. This is exactly the kind of chaotic madness Fortnite thrives on.

Rogue shenanigans! Medallions that change every match? That’s an entire game breaker right there. Now there’s more than just loot RNG: your whole playstyle might have to switch up in the middle of the game. One game, you’re a stealthy sniper; the next one, you’re a big, gooey bag full of shots with a shotgun that shoots fireworks. Madness!

The hype is real, as are the concerns. Anti-cheats, balancing issues, and usual Fortnite bugs might well turn this into a disaster if Epic doesn’t get ahead of them. But if they do? Blitz Royale could very well be what puts fresh life into the game.

So grab those medallions and cross your fingers for drunk RNG, and try not to get too mad when a mythic rocket launcher suddenly comes from nowhere. This is Fortnite at its most unpredictable cheerleader mode—and honestly? We are all in.
