Food for thought for the Fortnite enthusiasts: this one will really add kick to the mix. Epic Games announced a new permanent LTM, coming June 18. Yes, you read it right–PERMANENT. One will never have to FOMO into rotations ever again.
So, what is new Blitz Royale all about? It is all about fast-paced. To 32-player fast-paced. All the way from one device- strictly for mobile. Wait for it- mobile? Yes, mobile. The official tweet branded it as “made for mobile,” which could have been one more gray area on whether or not this is an app-only or just an optimized version for mobile play. As one who asked in the replies, @Xx_ShotZz_xX just bluntly said, “Will this be available for console & PC as well or just mobile?” A very good question, really. The absence of outright word from the company has been deafening. And with Fortnite being full-on cross-platform, it would feel a little odd going and locking down one mode to just one platform. Maybe it just means mobile-first? God only knows.
As for the description, this mode is chaos incarnate: smaller lobbies (32 players instead of 100); matches quicker; storms faster than your WiFi decides to disconnect the moment you need it most. Players are already making comparisons to Blitz Royale and Reload, Fortnite’s newest respawn mode, but without the reboots. @kmsmajora joked: “So reload without reloads? We will be playing day 1.” Meanwhile, @FFIILLTTHHYY has his say: “So no one played the og blitz 😂 what did all these kids start chapter 5?” Oof.
When you mention Blitz, old school people would start going “Yeah, the original Blitz LTM!” @CherkoYT reminisced, “Ah man, I missed Blitz LTM…Was the best!”. Seems like a spiritual successor these days: small, frantic, and fine for quick little bursts. But not everyone agrees. @SuperMario5687 shrugged, “I don’t think this mode is going to be that interesting, we already have reload and many ZoneWars maps.” Fair, but hey, more options never do hurt.
The teaser image (behind the Lawless Rift Launcher—shout out to @kun_okkotsu for spotting that) promised action, and if the rumors of exotic-only loot pools are true (thanks @cappruductions for that hype), then this would be every player sweatfest-ever-dreamed-of. Or, in the words of @Woodster1776, “I would die in less than a minute lol.” Same, buddy. Same.
Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room: Why are we so far leaning toward Fortnite mobile? The answer lies in the fact that this chief and also iOS making a comeback just show how much more they’re trying to appeal to handheld players. @geekedonb said it the best: “Tf they mean made for mobile.” Is it a control scheme tweak? Performance optimizations? Or just marketing fluff? Time will tell.
One thing’s for sure though—June 18 is coming way too slowly! Whether you are a mobile warrior or console king, Blitz Royale is going to put your reflexes to the test and if it will flop? Well, at least we have Always Reload.
On the real, shoutouts to @Nobody12553877 for a poignant statement: “And yet 50 vs 50 no build still isn’t permanent.” Preach.
So go mark that’s your calendar, plug those chargers in, and spare a chapter for some hype prayers: Blitz Royale is coming in hot!
