Set yourself tight, Fortnite people; something weirder is about to happen here. The tease has dropped, and the Internet is already half-mad about the Fortnite x Squid Game collab. The cryptic picture, which will come up for display come June 27, is of that weird slimy tongue licking what appears to be a honeycomb cookie. Yes, you read that correctly.
Allegedly shared by the usually reliable leaker, ShiinaBR, this teaser has made the Internet explode into reactions ranging from “hype” to “horrified.” One player said this thing was a “freaky ass pic” (@AintHeTooSuave). In contrast, @erenfromtargets said, “Something about that lick makes my skin itch.” I do not blame them at all.
What does it mean, though, for the real collab? Well, if you have seen Squid Game, you might just remember that the honeycomb challenge (dalgona) is one of the most iconic—and dreaded—games from the series. They are supposed to carve out shapes from thin candy without breaking it; otherwise, well . . . let’s just put it that way.
Some gamers theorize as to how this might actually translate into Fortnite. @EmorMetaX joked, “Blitz royal til squid games it is for me,” hinting at a possible limited-time mode based on the deadly competition. Others such as @PresidentBubby appear to be down for the chaos and say, “I wanna be that honey comb.”
And not everyone loves the idea. In fact, @reyyxss blurted out, “ew dirty tongue,” followed by @SmasherforFort’s “They could’ve just taken a picture of the cookie in the jar.” Fair. But seriously: When has Fortnite ever played anything so straight? From Travis Scott concerts to banana celebrations in suits, it’s all just an Epic Games curveball.
This leaker again @agent_draven gave his own insight on the aforementioned master collection: they said they uploaded a full skins showcase, which basically means that Squid Game-themed outfits should arrive very soon. (Green tracksuits, anyone?) When @lordjoker223 asked when the rest of the hidden skins would be revealed, it became pretty obvious this collab is packing more than just a creepy tongue.
As to what else remains to be expected, no official word yet, but if history is anything to go by, this crossover will be enormous. Possibly Red Light, Green Light LTM? Giant Piggy Bank back bling? There are so few options left-they’re horrifying.
One thing’s for sure: I cannot wait for June 27.
Whether you love it or hate it, Fortnite is going to take a stroll away from the usual. And honestly, that’s something that we would not mind.
So mark your calendars, charge your pickaxes, and brace yourself, as Squid Game will be landing on the island. And if that teaser is anything to go by, it will indeed be quite the ride.
