The violation oddly affecting the law of the world almost entirely affected no more than a handful of Fortnite players. Hence the update, being the biggest-ever-awaited, saw only a 24-hour delay. Epic Games, feeling it appropriate, moved the update from the original date of the 17th of June to the 18th, eliciting a range of human reactions varying from frustration to outright indifference from other set of fans. For the kingdom came great angerful news as leaked by HYPEX, and the community reaction to that… well, let’s just say that emotions went all over the place.
What exactly does this mean for players? So first of all, anyone who had already cleared their schedules for the 17th might need to adjust their plans. One player joined the jokes claiming he was skipping work for the new update, only to be greeted by another sarcastically inquiring, “Why are you skipping work just for a Fortnite update??” Then there are arguments from the competitive players that the new date conflicts with the Trio Cash Cup, making for an interesting (read: chaotic) tournament day.
All sorts of wackier theories about the update have started to fly around. Some souls wish for new points of interest (POIs) to be created, while others are crossing their fingers for the return of old movement mechanics. There have been talks about new modes too, including a kinda-casual OG mode that a lot of fans have been pleading for. And then, of course, there are those players who are so happy that thanks to this delay, they’ve finally got some time to truly focus on Dead by Daylight’s FNAF chapter without feeling guilty about missing Fortnite content—that’s a priority right there!
Some, however, are just not better for that news. A rather over-the-top one declared, “I’ll just kill myself it’s fine,” which… yikes. Warmed by the other were those pondering a silver lining, such as “One more cheat meal 🍕.” Honestly, same.
Some server concerns were raised in reply, one player venting about the lack of South African servers despite testing since January. Of course, that prompted the usual suspects, demanding Street Fighter skins be added to the item shop—because, honestly, what is a Fortnite update anymore without somebody asking for Ryu and Chun-Li?
Well, there’s still a cautiously hopeful atmosphere considering the minor delay. As one player put it, “Patience pays off.” Besides, it’s just a one-day wait, not a whole season being pushed back. So, definitely an all-caps must-be-marked calendar day: June 18. Stock up on snacks, and maybe do some deep-breathing if you were one of those primed to rage over a 24-hour delay. The update is coming, and historically, it’s likely worth waiting for.
