If there’s one thing Fortnite gets right it’s the live events. Peaking at 1.5 million viewers on Twitch and with the excitement I could hear from my own little brother downstairs, Epic sure is the king of launching these huge events.

No matter if you missed the event, there’ll be plenty of muted VODs from popular Twitch streamers as they had to mute the audio half-way through thanks to the brilliant DMCA-takedown rules.

For those that missed it, the event was pretty epic. A battle was fought against Galactus from aboard the Helicarrier. The looming figure covered half the sky and delivered the players a nasty backhand. Then it was to several hundred Battle Buses as they drove into the gaping mouth of Galactus…all pretty full-on.

Fortnite’s live event was truly global, amassing an impressive 1.5 million viewers on Twitch, out shadowing every other game on the platform by a huge, huge amount. It actually coincided with the Apex Legends Twitch Rivals event, which has yet to start at the time of writing thanks to poor server performance…

The event ended with a countdown of 8 hours, supposedly when Season 5 starts in Fortnite, a quick turnaround compared to previous events. In terms of other live events in Fortnite, it might have come across as a little underwhelming, with little gameplay and more watching events unfold. It does work as a great teaser for what’s coming next.

And what might that be? A lot of Fortnite fans are hoping the crack in the universe leads to the old map from seasons ago. That would mean a return to Tilted Towers at long last. However, that’s an 8-hour wait before you can find out. You won’t be able to play Fortnite for the rest of the day.

There are a few similarities to the previous events, mostly around that Black Hole. It will be interesting to see where Epic takes future events and whether or not they’ll follow in a similar way.

Despite concerns about the future of Epic’s Fortnite and dwindling numbers and disinterest in the community, a live event like this still shows Fortnite rules the roost when it comes to dominating the market.
