The abrupt change of the Fortnite Item Shop? Goodness, every upset player with a voice is speaking out. New skins and goodies have just dropped, some have promised to keep the hype alive while others just scream in all caps.
First launch for the shop was something from every universe: three variants of the Boundless skins, because why make it simple, if you will? Besides those were some of Amar’s W Locker, No Sweat, Victory Vibes, Jam Tracks, and lots of Marvel. Five skins from Marvel, precisely. Gamora. Thanos. Spider-Man. You get the picture! Then it has a Ferrari 296 GTB for all the car people and the Sabrina Carpenter Billboard set for the pop-culture lovers.
Got to say, people are not vibing with this drop. The replies are an amalgamation of hopelessness, memes, and desperate pleas for skins awaiting a comeback: Street Fighter? No sign. Star Wars? No sign. Adventure Time? Ghosted. And the Boundless skins are causing such uproar that people call them “ugly-ass skins” that shouldn’t be allowed the honor of clogging the shop at all, let alone being there twice a year and thrice in a single drop.
A certain @Mein__Fuehrer (yes, that’s the username) basically said Epic is trolling us with bad item shops. Another wasted no time dragging Fortnite’s entire social media team by implying that their rival is a “dead game” with better shop rotations – talk about a dagger straight in the gut.
Then we have the Ash Williams crowd. We know them, givers of vibes for the Evil Dead collab that nobody has laid eyes on for ages. @P0RRIDGE4BRA1NS summed it up with a weary still no ash williams 🙁 Meanwhile, @Jp47l echoed into the void: PLEASE GIVE US ANAKIN BACK.
The actual drama? Street Fighter. Gamers have been waiting forever for Ryu, Chun-Li, and the gang to come back, and some are losing hope. @Omer007A declared it “official” — Street Fighter skins are the new Kratos, a jab at what seems like an eternity of waiting for God of War’s protagonist to be reinstated. @YWN_DRXCO999 went further, stating that the very obsession for these skins is driving the community “crazy and immature.”
Then, it must be said, not all are against the shop. @SkarletSkourge quite likes the Boundless skins, supposing they’re thematically tied to the next season. And @Mark68894257 called it “decent” but still holds out hope for Invincible and Adventure Time to show back up.
So, what is the takeaway? Fortnite’s Item Shop is a gamble. Some days you’re just lucky to see the skins you’ve been dying for. Other days… It’s three variations on Boundless and loads of Marvel. Nonetheless, players certainly can’t put a lock on their minds and shout those feelings to the skies, some with passion, others in all-caps rage.
Will Epic listen? Who can say. But what surely can be bitten to death is that the Item Shop discourse won’t be dying down anytime soon. Now, if you’ll excuse me for a moment, I’m gonna check if Anakin is back yet. (Spoiler: He isn’t.)
