Well, fans of Fortnite, buckle up; Golden Week has come to deliver some of the wildest collabs ever. Something new has leaked, and if this turns out to be true (which, if we are honest, Epic loves surprises), we could see Hatsune Miku, Kaiju No. 8, Mechagodzilla & Kong come back. And yes, this is not a drill.
So what is Golden Week? For those not in deep Fortnite lore, it’s basically Epic’s way of celebrating Japanese culture by launching exclusive skins, events, and, of course, collabs that go harder than a default skin trying to build in Arena. Last year was already crazy, but this? Potentially crazier.
First up, Hatsune Miku. The virtual pop queen herself saw her time in the Item Shop, but it would just be sheer genius to bring her back once more during the Golden Week. The neon aesthetic fits like a glove, and, be honest, she has some sick emotes. This might just be that small chance for everyone who didn’t get to use her the first time around to just go living out their rhythm game fantasies in the middle of a Battle Royale.
Next up is Kaiju No. 8. For those not in the loop, this is a manga/anime series concerning giant monsters and the humans who try to stop them. A sick Kaiju No. 8 skin, just imagine dropping into the map as a literal giant creature. Or a human, realistically, with kaiju-esque gear? Either way, it would be a definite cop for anime fans, for sure.
But wait, there’s more. Mechagodzilla & Kong have also leaked. You remember them? From Godzilla vs. Kong? The same crossover that left us all wondering, “Why isn’t there a kaiju battle royale mode?” So if these skins make a return, not only will it be a monumental W for nostalgia, but do I smell something even bigger cooking from Epic? An LTM that has players controlling kaiju? One can always dream.
But before you tell all your pals to stock that V-Bucks, bear in mind they are currently leaks. Nobody has heard a thing from Epic, and one of their favorite things is to keep us in the dark on any of their plans. But, judging by their past, I think it is safe to state that Golden Week 2024 is going to be full of hype. I mean, last year was an all-out trample with Naruto, Dragon Ball, and so much anime goodness that it hurt our eyes. This appears to be that good cocktail number composed of classic virtual idols, manga heroes, and Hollywood monsters that makes for drool-worthy good stuff.
And that is just timing. If the leak is true, Golden Week usually comes late in April, meaning we are just weeks from the final reveal. Dance emotes? Back blings referring to classic Japanese games? A secret concert like the one Travis Scott threw? Once again, no.
One thing is sure: Fortnite kills everything in collabs. If anime, then Godzilla smashing Tilted Towers with some wacky fun. Golden Week is sure to be market-worthy. Mark your calendars and start saving some V-Bucks-just in case.
So, unless they’re true, Fortnite mediums are going full-weeb mode anytime now, and we’re hella ready! Excuse me while I brush up on some building skills, so I don’t mess up with Miku on release day.
