Blizzard has recently released a massive new update for Diablo IV fans, and let me tell you: it is absolutely fantastic. The stealthy, scheming demon who made life miserable for players in Diablo III is all set to earn that glory in a comeback to Sanctuary on April 29. Belial, the Lord of Lies, is back with style.

So what’s that all about? The official Diablo Twitter account teases Belial’s return: upgrade your build with the powers of some of Sanctuary’s mightiest enemies. And if Belial shows his face, you can bet things are going to get really crazy. The tweet doesn’t speak too much but the picture it showed (some seriously dark demonic energy by the looks of it) seems to suggest that it’s not going to be the full-on cameo treatment–some sort of event or boss fight for sure.

Why should you care? Obviously! Because Belial is not just your ordinary demon. He’s actually a Prime Evil, among the really high-caliber guys in the Diablo universe. He’s highs of deception, illusions, and forever making you doubt what’s real-which in a game like Diablo IV translates to crazy mechanics that will really mess with your head. Do you remember his fight in Diablo III? Yeah that phase in which the arena literally starts crumbling beneath you? Good times.

Rumors have spread like wildfire among the fans. Some of them think it might come into a seasonal event, probably one new dungeon, or perhaps world bosses. Others would wager that it is a whole story update to come and is a little teaser for a future expansion. Then there are the ones just howling for, “WHY DO BRING HIM BACK, BLIZZARD? I WAS FINALLY DONE WITH MY NIGHTMARES.”

Blizzard has remained tightly zipped on the matter about whether this will actually be a campaign updating or a seasonal event, although one could raise an eyebrow at the timing. Mark your calendar folks-may 29 is fast approaching, and you won’t have to wait long now to find out what this torment is all about from Belial this year. And since Diablo IV will keep going with the live service, this will probably be just one of many famous villain returns.

For people who missed those good old days playing Diablo III (or even repressed them), Belial was the main boss in Act II and pretended to be the ruler of Caldeum before finally letting the curtain rise. It was a unique blend of mind tricks and tough mechanics, precisely the type of thing a Diablo IV must-have in its darker, more visceral combat.

So what to do now? Sit by the computer and keep an eye on Blizzard’s official channels for news building up to April 29. And maybe, just maybe, begin to dust off the “Anti-Belial” things lying around. Because if there is one thing Belial loves, it is crushing your laughter into the deepest pit of despair.

Either way, the conversations are pretty busy on Diablo IV. Spreading such theories, memes, and panics may look like the Spread of Toads Infection. One-time event or just a little hint toward the menacing future happenings? That’s right: sanctuary is going to get much more ‘interesting’, and by ‘interesting’ we mean terrifying!

So now, with all your calendars marked up, start sharpening your weapons and steeling your nerves. The Lord of Lies is back and he plays for keeps! Unless, of course, playing is exactly what he wants you to think. The classics, the Belial style.
