For months now, people have been speculating, throwing out name after name, with no concrete announcement coming from the folks over at Nintendo.

That all changes this week. Because tomorrow, January 16, 2020, at 9 a.m. ET, Smash Bros. game director Masahiro Sakurai will be holding a 35-minute live stream where he will reveal the identity of the final character.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been a huge win for Nintendo since it’s release a little more than one year ago. It has become the single highest selling fighting game of all time. To date, Super Smash Bros. as a series is the highest selling fighting game franchise of all time, beating out heavy hitters like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, and Tekken.

The Fighters’ Pass can be attributed to some of the game’s monumental success, with four fighters already released as downloadable extras. First, there was Joker from Persona 5, then Banjo and Kazooie from Banjo-Kazooie, then it was the Hero from Dragon Age, and most recently, we got Terry Bogard, the main hero of the Fatal Fury fighting game series.

Rumors as to the identity of the final fighter have been swirling like crazy.

There are some who believe it’s going to be Waluigi, from the Mario series of games. It would make sense as Waluigi is one of the only major characters from the Super Mario games to not be a playable character. He has appeared in the games as an assist trophy only.

Then there are the long-shot rumors, like Son Goku from Dragon Ball or Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

Of course, there’s the long running rumor that the final DLC fighter will be Ryu Hayabusa from the Ninja Gaiden series. That rumor started when a Smash Bros. leaker with a history of providing accurate information shared it on Twitter.

One of the strongest rumors going around right now is that it will be Dante, the hero from the Devil May Cry series. Devil May Cry 3 is getting a Nintendo Switch release at the end of February, right around the time that this mystery character is going to be dropping.

On top of that, Devil May Cry producer Matt Walker teased a major announcement coming concerning the franchise. He gave three dates to watch out for.

One of them was January 16.
