The Game Awards 2020 are currently under way and thus far, it has been quite an eventful show. Many were excited heading into this awards ceremony not just because of the winners that would be announced in select categories, but because of the new games teased.

One of these was Evil West, an action shooter being developed by Flying Wild Hog. The game has an interesting twist on the tried and true Western theme that games like Red Dead Redemption 2 are notorious for in that it features vampiric creatures.

What’s not to like about vampires and the Wild West? Sounds like ingredients to a particularly interesting shooter where players will have to rely on a bevvy of unique weapons to save the United States from these monstrosities.

It’s like a mix of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Van Helsing, a match made in heaven on paper. According to the game’s official description page, players will be able to go around a Western landscape taking out vampires as the last line of defense. Humanity needs a hero and players will try their hand at becoming one.

Along the way, players will have the opportunity to upgrade their weapons and evolve their combat style to match their preferences. Evil West also will support co-op for those that want to enjoy the campaign with a friend.

Co-op support has been pretty popular these last couple of years and it’s good to see the developer using it to make this game more of a social experience. Of course, you can always take out vampires with classic Western weapons alone if you prefer the lone wolf approach.

In the trailer up above, you can see a highly stylized graphic direction. That should give Evil West a unique identify early on, which should be complimented nicely with the bloodthirsty combat that we still need to see more of.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was one of the best games the year it came out, and this game has a lot of similar elements only with a darker spin. It probably won’t be as open or as in-depth, but Evil West looks to be cashing in on the Western craze that is hard not to love. Let’s see if it can make a dent in this space.

Either way, Evil West looks like a good time and is a welcomed addition to this genre. It’s currently scheduled to release sometime in 2021. Stay tuned for more updates and trailers.
