Rumors for an Oblivion remaster have been floating for ages, but it appears like Bethesda will truly perform something like this for real. A Bing user accidentally found a product page for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, an offshoot to some leaked images that have put the Elder Scrolls community in a frenzy.
After long years of pleading from the fans for Bethesda to give that noble 2006 classic a well-deserved modernization, if I say so myself, that’s probably true. That fits right in the clutch, too, as it marks the 10-year anniversary of Skyrim with yet another re-release. Oblivion must get love for that.
Although there has been no announcement about the project yet, leaked images showcase modern character models and textures. If this is anything to go by, it would not be a mere resolution upscale but instead a complete visual overhaul. Now it’s just a matter of whether to see new content added, or if we’re just going to get a simple remaster.
After that, the fans are speculating about the leaked news. Some are clamoring for some quality-of-life enhancements: improved UI, cut down loading times, while others dream about quests or restoring cut content. Well, being a Bethesda game, the expectations should probably be reasonable.
Those initial responses are something else! By now, you’d expect the comments section to erupt, full of hysterics, incredulity, and memes, with all of these leaks. The place is probably impassable with so many people hammering the key on F5 for ‘Bethesda’ point of presence for the announcement.
Absolutely, I’m on the edge of my seat for this competing against the never-ending Skyrim re-releases! Oblivion has an equally rabid fanbase, maintaining that it’s the better game; perhaps this will finally put that argument to rest. Or spark a whole new debate about which really is the GOAT.
Now, for some wait and see, as Bethesda has kept a tight lid on this one since Starfield came to be. Not the worst call for an Oblivion nostalgia remaster. Keep those F5 bars ready; things might actually heat up!
If this turns out to be fake, at least we had a couple of hours of anticipation before the drowning waves would crush down. Classic Bethesda cycle, indeed.
