EA Sports release to date the Top 25 Toughest Places to Play in College Football 26 has pissed off the internet. The listing went out on a tweet from On3sports, where fans really voiced their burning opinions for-or against-worthwhile placements of their chosen stadiums, if at all.
First and foremost, let’s talk about the elephant in the room-or, shall we say, the missing elephant? Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium, home to the Cornhuskers, is nowhere to be seen in the Top 25. You’d never believe it: The stadium has sold out every home game since the year 1962, 62 YEARS!!! Owen Hillman agrees: “Nebraska should always be on here. They’ve sold out every home game for more than 50 YEARS!!!” And it kind of does make sense.
Then comes the unfortunate intrusion of Mississippi State’s Davis Wade Stadium into the 25th position. No disrespect to the Bulldogs and I think Razerback (@Razerback_45) would agree-“Mike Leach may he rest in peace got whooped by everyone last year… at home AND away. That is not a ‘tough’ place to play.” Ouch. But hey, maybe EA Sports knows something we don’t? (I highly doubt it.)
Then came all the fan fury about Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium not being in the Top 5. Jenny Tailia (@PAP4SMURPH) said outright, “No excuse for Austin Texas being outside of the top 5.” And honestly, with that fanbase behind her? She may be right.
Next comes the chaos that erupted from placing Williams-Brice Stadium beneath Death Valley. Meech/Metrius (@_Metrius_) declared, “Clemson not tougher than SC William Bryce stadium,” and yes, the Gamecocks nearly rioted over it. Meanwhile, Florida fans were trashing Sanford Stadium, with VolRising (@VolRising901) saying, “They get mad at you for standing during the games (happened multiple times).” Ouch.
And the BYU guy (@NorCalCougar84) had to jump in and demand some respect for LaVell Edwards Stadium: “Ask anyone who comes to play the Cougars, especially the Utes, how tough it is to play at LES.” Okay, buddy. We see you.
Some fans saying the whole list is a joke was the funniest part. EB (@EBIRDMAN300) simply put, “Is this a fucking joke?” followed by Duff (@LiberalsSuck0): “It’s a joke right?” And honestly? I might say it is–with these picks.
That being said, EA Sports College Football 26 quite likely did this purposely-there is no better way for them to market it but to stir up drama. Agree with the rankings? Or think they are absolute whack? One thing is a sure shot: College kids are going to keep this alive forever.
So, what do you think? Did your team get respect, or did EA drop the ball harder than a freshman quarterback with 30 seconds to kill? Either way, buckle up, because this debate is going to be around for a while.
If nothing else, we can all agree that… Mississippi State at #25 is… A choice. A very, very questionable choice.
