Techland continues to keep their community-first idea alive in the development process of Dying Light: The Beast with rumors about the studio giving early access to some community members to get hands-on playing. The official Dying Light Twitter had cried in cryptic terms, “something big is coming,” so something to watch out for. Now let me enlighten you on what the world of mystery project entails.
First of all, there have probably been some tomatoes thrown on the walls with all the extra hype put into community involvement. Players were invited out for early testing in a Community Hands-on Event for Dying Light: The Beast. Having said that, it is not just a publicity stunt. Techland has been listening to its fans over the years, and this seems to be another way going in that direction. One fan GamerMom1969 jokingly said, “Lucky!! Wish I could have been there 😠but glad the community got a hands on.” Honestly, same.
Almost as if this game is a dear family secret, with rare glimpse details coming forth in the streams and through responses. One A.Stephen claims The Beast “does take place after Dying Light 2,” which would coincide with rumors we had heard before. Another user, SkiJinxyyy (much love to you for that name), states, “I’m thinking that cause of the vehicles.” That right there is some damn good reasoning—if this expansion encourages driving more than The Following DLC, then we are looking at a huge open world distruction road-trip type of experience. Less jump, more smash? Maybe.
By the way, there’s been some discussion of how much parkour will be in The Beast. SkiJinxyyy asked if the game would feel more tactical, and A.Stephen answered, “I haven’t heard anything about it. But the fact we’ve got a truck to use, makes me think this will be more like The Following DLC.” If the truck does show up in The Beast, that’s a lot of driving and chaos on foot coming your way!
Well, the fan base craves answers. Chito outrightly demanded at Summer Game Fest the reveal of the gameplay and the release date. Not the worst call, honestly. ShadePJ added, “I have a feeling the release date is gonna be announced at Summer Game Fest.” I bet it does. It is almost right there, and Techland always seem to like those surprise reveal drops.
Next, the question of guns came up. SkiJinxyyy (again MVP of this thread) sought Antoñito’s opinion about the introduction of guns to Dying Light 2: “I kinda liked the no guns part felt more risky to me.” Good point—they’re going to change the vibe. But Antoñito’s reply was a little vague: “More like the first one but a little better I suppose.” So… maybe a balance? We’ll see.
However, interspersed between all that were classic random demands. DJ_Shreddz demanded, “WHERE IS THE ITALIAN?!” while MystSpeedTrap spammed, “Demo! Demo! Demo!” Classic Twitter madness.
If those vehicle rumors are true, Dying Light: The Beast is going to be one helluva wild ride. Techland keeps fairly tight-lipped on the details, but with Summer Game Fest right around the corner, maybe it’ll be worth the short wait. For now, polish up on your parkour…or start with your driving skills. Big things are coming. Judging by the way the community reacted, it’s going to be a helluva ride.
