Previously, Techland shocked fans with an early concept of the supernatural Volatiles in Dying Light and, needless to say, fans have opinions. The studio put up an abandoned concept of more armored rocky-looking Visages of the infamous night hunters, and you bet it would keep you awake. Its reception, however, did not fully resonate with the audience.

The tweet read: “Ever wondered how the Volatiles could look like? This is one of the early concepts. How do you like it? šŸ˜ #tbt”. Immediately, it ignited a bloodbath. Some winners accepted the heavily remodeled, almost volcanic-y appearance, while others chastised it for drifting too far from the very organic horror mastery of the original’s design.

“This is like a Volatile before it fully turns into a Volatile,” said @TheLustRing, implying it could have been a cool mid-transformation stage. Meanwhile, @DARKWEB21 lavished approval of the concept but admitted, “I like what you went with more,” continuing to plead with Techland to “This stuff should be in a game.”

But there was more than that. @haunted34 grumbled that the design looked “too non-biological,” while @MuneerA68404804 simply thought the stone-like texture made it feel quite “unnatural”. Compared to that of the original game’s glossy sinewy monsters. As for @Drcollins_? Just “I don’t like that they look rocky.” Fair enough.

Then, there were other “what if?” proposals. Just wonderful zombie type created by @billybaker665- “the hardened volatile? Not as fast but more tanky with the armor???”; although @ArkVks ran into full sci-fi with “robotic one looking like this and call it Volatile Prime.” (Techland, take notes.)

Of course, some fans just nope-out completely. Anyone crazy enough to try and use that to scare me would be getting an LMAO right in the face before I ALT+F4 I’m so sorry. Same, honestly.

An entire discussion about mechanics arose. @mad_maired suggested ambush-climbing, to take players relaxing on some wall by surprise, with “HUGE claws.” @Mcarroll84M had pictured the showdown against Apex Volatile with legendary loot at stake.

But the real question? Is this a tease for Dying Light 3? @DaGreatLordO asked plainly if it would eventually come with “a new version of the volatile.” Techland coyly responded to that, and hey: fan theories are already running wild about it.

The thing everybody can agree upon, love it or hate it: Dying Light fans are heavily invested in their zombie designs. Whether this rocky monstrosity ever makes it into a game or sits on a shelf for good, it gets people talking, and that’s half the fun.
