Without wasting any time, Techland has just injected vigor into the Dying Light fanbase with the announcement that The Beast will be featured at the Summer Game Fest with fresh gameplay footage provided by Techland, with the release date having been fully confirmed. Like, finally. Said announcement has been confirmed in a tweet from the official Dying Light account; the replies have since gone crazy; half of the crowd are hyped, half are skeptical, and half are praying that the game would not get delayed again. That’s just gamer chaos in real life.

So what is really going on with Dying Light: The Beast? We don’t have many clues at the moment, but we certainly know that it has been in development for quite some time. It was formerly scheduled for release in Summer 2025, so we’ll now be seeing a much more definite date. Judging by the variety of opinions expressed in the user responses, some think the game will come out earlier than what is announced (like, this summer?), while others are bracing for another delay. Synth Potato declared: “FINALLY, fingers crossed it still hits that summer window.” Meanwhile, jokask_jaxx21 is predicting the launch to be in late July or early August. Yet, in this very moment, the real answer is unknown; the silence coming from Techland is deafening, so expect a gigantic reveal to come on Friday.

The replies are a whole mood. Some players straight-up rejoiced: Ricky (@thekingryzin) screamed “lets gooooo,” and honestly, same. Other players, though, threw down another perspective: TrueSocialist (@truesocialist_) hit us with the cold hard truth, “Did we all forget about how much of a disaster Dying Light 2 was?” Oof. Yeah, the launch was… rough. But Synth Potato fired back by saying the game had improved massively over time and that The Beast is building off that foundation. So, mixed feelings all around.

There’s a bit of a debate about whether The Beast is a full sequel or just a big expansion. Kalel (@Skyminerkal) straight-up asked, “I forget, is this a separate story expansion or the third game in the series?” Good question, dude. They’re asking the big one, and yet, strangely, Techland still hasn’t answered. But with the title sounding more like a spin-off, it’s probably not Dying Light 3 anyway. A standalone story, maybe? All will be revealed soon.

Aside from the whole spoiler discussion surrounding Summer Game Fest, a good number of gamers are also not pleased with Geoffrey Keighley’s constant early reveals. Rav (@RaviceWrath) asked, “why are we spoiling everything,” while Freight train (@caseyf2622) beseeched, “Please keep most of the games hidden and not spoil them before summer games fest. It ruins the surprise.” Can’t really blame them, though, half the fun of some of these events are the unexpected reveals. But hey, at least we got Dying Light: The Beast in the open now. That’s excitement enough.

If nothing will ever be said about anything else, we know what Friday will be about. Between new gameplay and release date, these Dying Light fans are going to be treated royally. To see if it’s worth or crumble sinisterly into DL2’s launch, yet to be named. At least, we’ll have an answer then. Tune in. Next Friday Summer Game Fest should reveal Techland’s new cooking, and if we’re lucky, maybe we’ll even have that summer release to gawk at we’ve been waiting for. Or more delays. Interesting either way.
