Techland fixed the much-awaited release date of the thrilling-blood-pumping Dying Light: The Beast, with a bit of drama as well. The game has been scheduled for release on August 22, while the player base is already split. Some are busy gearing up to get down and dirty in zombie-infested chaos yet again, while the others well… do have their opinions.
Hold on, though; what is The Beast? It is the next chapter in the Dying Light story: bringing back (if gradually) the somewhat disdained protagonist Kyle Crane for an unforgiving parkour survival nightmare. The devs have hinted, though vaguely, at an enlarged open-world setting, much harsher survival mechanics, and, most importantly, the sort of unrelenting terror that gripped you by your very heartstrings in the first game and earned it the cult apex. So, is this going to sway the detractors? The announcement made by Techland doesn’t exactly have dry eyes, nor dry mouths, filling up with laughter or/or with some haterous saltiness.
So, the hype squad started talking. Some fans were all for it: @TheHighestHighs went on to call Dying Light “one of the best fan-interactive franchises around.” @lukepalmer27 said that he got one free because of his “obsession” with Dying Light 2 (lucky guy!). Then came @DCUSteel: he said he had “no doubt” in saying, “I’ll always take on the challenge,” and knows Techland will put out another brilliant game just like before.
And so… here come the critique. @Theafrocain fired off, labeling the final fight in Dying Light 2 as simply “a repetitive chase and punchfest,” while the open world started to become dull. @SpaceWithAir was more biting as he sarcastically accused the game of “copy-paste” towns and “lame animations” before dropping the ultimate insult: “You’re not GTA 6.” Now, that was a harsh roast.
Now it’s time for the talk of digital or physical copies. Some users like @Dominatez and @ThatguyRy05 plainly stated that they would never go for a digital copy. @Cpt_Oreo4 just demanded a physical version for PS5 and nothing else on top of it. And then @smashbrolink is over here awaiting a non-cloud-based Switch 2 port. All too real.
Another gripe? @Osstriker84_ says no if it doesn’t have crossplay, @c0nstantinn begs that it doesn’t carry Denuvo (nice luck with that), while @xzeuii is concerned about missing tracks on the PC. Meanwhile, @Brendanc122 wonders if cars need fuel IDs again-because, y’know, realism in a game where you drop-kick zombies from rooftops.
That said, not all feedback was detrimental. Some gamers just wanted more stuff, like @NEXON447, who wanted to know if gameplay was dropped in July, and @Oblivionisback, who proposed auto-loot. Then comes @KaizdV, who is practically begging for it now because, quote, “it’s gonna be good don’t worry.”
But then? Dying Light: The Beast is looking to be another one of those polarizing entries for the franchise. There’s the player-side willing to hand over their money right away, some others throwing side glances with suspicion, and one or two players who are going to make damned sure they get a physical copy. But one thing’s for sure: August 22 is gonna be interesting.
So…are you wishlisting it, or waiting for reviews? Either way, bring out those grappling hooks, and pray zombies don’t glitch this time.
