Ready, Guardians? Bungie threw a neat little surprise into the mix with Destiny 2, setting the entire community ablaze. The oblique, vexing, brain-melting puzzle that is the Unknown Antechamber? Well, uh, guess what-it has been solved. And of course, there is Eris Morn in the mix; when does that creepy moon-dwelling lore queen not have her fingers in something mysterious?

“Oh, just a cheeky little tweet: ‘♟️ Checkmate,’ along with the link. That practically confirms that players have unlocked the secrets of Unknown Antechamber. For those living under a rock (or somehow grinding GMs), this was one of those ultra-obscure in-game mysteries that had dataminers and puzzle-solvers pulling their hair out for weeks. Not. It is time!

What’s the solution? Go to Eris’s Flat at the Last City. Yeah, yeah-there’s now an Eris flat. Right? Apparently, she has always had this fabulous real estate while the whole lot of us were sleeping in spaceships like space hobos. The tweet does not say anything down the line, but the image posted (which looks like one kind of ritual circle or might as well be a very elaborate game of cosmic chess) could form a thousand theories at least.

What’s really in the Antechamber? At the moment, no one knows; could be loot, could be lore, could be one of those creepy Darkness statues that give your Ghost the shivers; but knowing Bungie, probably all of the above- plus that hidden exotic that’s going to require you to do something insane, like flip 15 switches while wearing a full set of blue gear.

Now the real question is: why, this time? With the Final Shape sitting right on the horizon, it almost feels like another breadcrumb into whatever universe-ending lunacy Bungie has brewing somewhere right now. Maybe this is a Witness tie-in. Maybe it gets us set up for a new dungeon. Or classic Bungie just giving us a good poke for a little while until the expansion drops.

Guardians, what are you doing if not racing to the Tower to check this thing out? The mystery is solved; the door is open, and Eris is surely heralding her mysterious nonsense. Just… maybe take a flashlight. And a fireteam. And, well, possibly a therapist.

And should there happen to be an exotic in there somewhere, DM me. In return, I’ll offer a god-roll Riptide. Maybe.”

Update: fine, fine-two Riptides. But that’s my final offer.
