The latest Bungie-released episode of This Week in Destiny (TWID) had many players up in arms. The post concerned itself with topics such as the decrease in Rite of the Nine rewards, elaborations on The Edge of Fate, and possible alterations to bounties, among others. But rather than feelings of anticipation, the response of the community consists mainly of dissatisfaction, sarcasm, and an overwhelming sense of shock.
The first thing casts its light on the aforementioned Rite of the Nine reward system. Bungie said they would increase drop rates, but the players remained adamant that the whole thing meant nothing without a vault space change. One player going by the alias NCC 1701v said: “Why increase reward drops without the vault space? Same rolls without changes to weapons!? Doesn’t make sense.” Actually, they do have a valid point. If you don’t have space to store any loot, what would basically be the point of having it at all?
Another problem came with the hidden chests that David Richter highlighted, that some chests remain bugged and stopped rewarding any loot after the very first run of the character. “That is since the beginning of Rite of the Nine,” he added with a “Please respond and fix it!” To date, Bungie has remained silent on this matter, but it clearly is no longer a matter of only one affected player, as a growing amount of players have come out with exactly the same complaints.
Crazy concept: another detailed thought might be that players are accusing Bungie of doubling down on bad rewards. Princess Marie could not have summed this up better: “Everyone: The Rite of the Nine rewards are bad. Bungie: We’ve heard your feedback… so we increased the amount of bad rewards!”
The other side watches for a solution while the entreaties for Destiny 3 multiply. Without wasting many words, Jose Ramos said: “Just pull the plug already, and give us Destiny 3.” Hard, maybe, but with Marathon being Bungie’s new extraction shooter with all of the attention lately, some players feel Destiny 2 is receiving the short straw.
Speaking of Marathon, the Destiny-Marathon connection is causing some… interesting reactions. TetraStrange laughed out loud: “Did Destiny 2 seriously steal its own character design from Marathon? U CANT MAKE THIS SHIT UP.” At the same time, Mikealicious went ahead to ask if Marathon was going to be canon in Destiny. Bungie still has not responded; we can thus only imagine how wild the speculation must be.
Oh, and the transmog issue? Mr. Egghead put forth a one-liner-loaded request: “Can we finally remove or increase the limit on transmog unlocks?” It’s been a sore spot forever, and players are still waiting on the fix.
Ghost_2799 came up with some good ideas on the upside: “Should make the moth patterns / inkblots a shader.” That would be pretty cool.
And then? Well, it obviously comes down to players demanding those Trials of the Nine ornaments. Dominus_26 declared it to be “the biggest fail ever” that Bungie didn’t bring them back. And honestly, surely it is a missed opportunity, given just how much players loved that aesthetic.
Based on this, where does this leave us? The most recent update from Bungie is setting players apart, some hoping for fixations to come and others just fed up. Changes in The Edge of Fate may be a fresh wind, but with that, the community mood is something I describe with a wary kind of spicy.
Will Bungie lose affection again about these matters? Time will tell. Though, Guardians just keep on making their voices heard-almost deafeningly.
If you’re wondering if it’s worth grinding pre-expansion… SpookyWolf131 puts it succinctly: “Is it worth getting loot before the new expansion? Because the new armor and guns will basically replace our current stuff, right?” Yup. Probably.
So, that is the present state of Destiny 2. Rewards? Questionable. Vault space? Still a nightmare. Vibe of the community? Somewhere between “fix this” and “just give up.”
Stay tuned, Guardians. After all, maybe next week will carry better news to TWID. Or, at least, some shaders.
