Bungie dropped a brand new Pride Shader Pack on Destiny 2 for the month of June and well… the reactions have been quite diverse. There are those who embrace these bright, rainbow-colored cosmetics with love, and then there are others who…well, just imagine confetti going in the opposite direction.

The Prismatic Expanse shader pack is free for any player to grab after redeeming the code (D6T-3JR-CKX) at the Special Deliveries kiosk in the Tower. But wait for this: Bungie is selling another Pride Shader Pack inside the game for $5.50 a pop, all proceeds of which go straight to the Advocates for Trans Equality Education Fund, a non-profit for trans rights.

This sounded like a kiss-the-rainbow moment in pride cosmetics but no, the Destiny 2 community is split in the exact opposite way like a Trials of Osiris matchmaking lobby.

That said, Fahad (@ArabiGaymer) is all hyped, calling the shaders cute and praising Bungie for representation. Then there’s FlaminSarge admiring the color cycle on the shader, especially on Titan armor. “The way it slowly shifts… perfect,” they tweeted while posting an exuberant video splattering it all over.

Now some are deciding to keep it real: Other people just aren’t feeling it. Some of the commentary ranged from mild irritation (“Leave kids alone”-@Valakss) to outright rage (“Every game developer that’s still Woke deserves to be bankrupt”-@RealAlexMayer). One player, @DusterwaldJ, even accused Bungie of “pushing dangerous slop” and alienating fans. Awful.

Followed by the classic “what about men’s mental health?” rebuttal, @Real_Darkmatt3r asked: “Nogga where is mens health month goodies?” (Spoiler alert: Men’s Health Month really is in November, but yeah, whatever.)

Bungie has been staying in the drum circle of controversies—remember when they scrapped the contract with Activision and went independent? Or when they deprecated half of the game’s content? But here, the uproar isn’t about gameplay—it’s about identity, politics, and whether a sci-fi looter-shooter should even support social issues in the first place.

In love with or hating the Pride Shader Pack, it comes with the exact same intention by Bungie: to instigate conversation. If these ends up being productive, that’s another thing to discuss.

If, however, all you want is to shoot aliens in these snazzy colors, grab the free shader and forget about the rest of the noise. Guardians come in all shapes and colors—even rainbow ones.
