This monumental quality-of-life update was issued by Bungie for the sake of accessibility concerning Destiny 2 fandom. Rite of the Nine is one of the latest offerings as of March 19, 2023, with the new Explorer mode featuring in-game tooltips, no darkness zones, and optional matchmaking. Essentially, this means that the mode has finally been made free to the public.

What is that supposed to mean? Has any player overwhelmed by the workings of Destiny 2 stated they want to really just take it easy from the dix-e-death pressure? Here is the explanation: tooltips teach you the mechanics; darkness zones-insta-fail sections-have been taken away; then you choose whether to matchmake with strangers. This is basically the building-from-wheels version of the dungeon, perfect for beginners or just chilling out.

However, a few dissenting voices appeared. Some hold the view that the mode is just too generous to the players; Seth Upton (@Bigskinny355) stated, “Yall made that mode too easy. There is literally no point in going in on explorer.” Meanwhile, others are angling for Bungie to implement this across other dungeons and raids: Mathuin (@Mathuin__) weighed in: “Probably the best feature put in the game. Would be foolish to not roll this out to all dungeons and eventually raids.”

Another chaos erupted below—server complaints, race demands for character customization (we’re looking at you, @nextgentime), some random peep proclaiming “Increase shiny drop chances” from @MrEasyClap (Buddy, wrong game). But the most furious one was from @IchigoxrukiaF with a caps-lock rage: “FIX YOUER GODDAM SURVER’S AND STOP WASTING YOUER FUCKING TIME ON ADDING NEW SHIT.” Ouch.”

Perhaps Bungie may never know if one could consider keeping this for the duration of the season, but players like Lorenzo Núñez (@Lorenzo_NM) are already asking: “Will this stay in the game after Edge of Fate? Including Ghost and Spire remaining free to all players?” Nothing from Bungie yet, but I assume based on the positive reception (save for keyboard warriors, that is), keeping it would be the smart move.

And if you still need more reason to believe in it, keep this company in mind: This is the same company whose raid mechanics gave you PTSD with “Guardian down.” So, a little bit of mercy would be in the best interest of the players.

So off you go, Guardians; have some power-down dungeon runs for a change. Don’t forget the part about shooting from behind, though—Explorer or not, these baddies sure aren’t going to kill themselves.

(But seriously, Bungie, fix the servers.)
