If you ever thought Destiny 2 was just about shooting aliens and collecting loot, think again. The community has taken the idea of character creation to dizzying extremes, concocting intricate backstories, personalities, and even full-scale lore for their Guardians; some legendary answers came through when a recent tweet asked players to share tales about their Guardians.

The original tweet was a rather short-and-sweet offer- “Yes you can tell me about your guardians in fact im happy to hear about them,” after which a deluge of fairly creative, bordering-ridiculous ones started pouring in. Scrambled Ghosts named after cereal, and Exos carrying nukes inside their chests-the Destiny 2 community never ceases to amaze.

Kassanova42 gave a short and snappy story about their Guardian, Delilah, who, somehow, managed to retoll her Void energy into a scythe after gaining her Light in the aftermath of the Red War, for which they made sure to emphasize that it was before Destiny Rising because apparently, timing is kind of important when making your own lore. On the other side of the same coin, @organizedchaov gave us Artemis, a Hidden Warlock explorer banned from Gambit (probably justly so) whose Ghost behaves like a C-3PO.

Back in another time zone, @RageSpell531 dropped a bomb-nuke-in-a-Ghost-of-his-own-chest-having-exo-guardian-for-a-name-and-both-of-them-hate-Hive affair, which just sounds about right. Completely unrelated was the story from @CommandoMario91, who named their Ghost “Cornflake” because… well, we all need a little nonsense in our lives.

Some put the characters to work in an almost real RPG style. For example, @goodoldarch tells us that Hunter Arch-1 remembers his past life as a Braytech volunteer and has been using that knowledge to annoy people with ancient pop culture references. His Ghost Lilith, on the other hand, is not amused. Combine this with @ZoyerDaDeer that walks around with a tennis ball Ghost called Tenten, literally a real tennis ball for in-game antics.

Not everybody chose to stray too far into lore-land, though. “I haven’t named my Guardians or given them any sort of personality, but I do assign weapon frames based on vibes,” @BoRikuaBoii confessed. And in case you might have been wondering, @Epsilon_025 uses their Titan as self-insert but lately has been switching back and forth between body types-might be a mid-life crisis.

Then, of course, there were funny ones such as @User70flesh’s Guardian, with around 100 deleted characters screaming advice in his head like a chaotic new Light tutorial, and @ExodysReal even posted a picture of a body pillow of his Guardian, as to be expected.

What all of these signify is that the players of Destiny 2 don’t just play-they live it. Through intricate story-making, naming ghosts after random objects, or simply vibing with their looks, there is no end to the creative potential of this community.

So, during a fireteam run, remember that silent Hunter standing right next to you might actually be a Braytech experiment gone horribly wrong, while that Warlock could be secretly hoarding all sorts of paracausal artifacts in their vault. And if you spot a Ghost that looks akin to a tennis ball… just roll with it.
