The other day, Guerrilla Games threw out an insane question on Twitter to celebrate the launch of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and treasure Kojima Productions. After putting up their post about the collaboration involving the Guerrilla Decima engine, the response thread went utterly bonkers with all the reactions. Such energy is rarely found in the ordinary day!
First of all, what on Earth is going on here? Guerrilla, the developers of Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, created the Decima Engine, which is quite an awesome engine that has powered some of the beautifully rendered PlayStation games. And now it’s powering Death Stranding 2. Big deal, when we speak highly detailed games by Kojima standards. The work also shared some awesome concept art by Li Plokker that you sincerely probably want to print, frame, and hang up.
But, man, the real juicy part lies in the replies. The gamers are losing their consciousnesses talking about how Decima is better than Unreal Engine 5. One particular user, @stenograaf, was pretty straightforward: “UE5 is a poorly-running POS product compared to Decima.” Was that harsh? Perhaps, but there is passion for the subject. Others, like @MrSneakyGuy, claimed that more devs should actually ditch UE5 in favor of Decima. Oof.
Next, the passion for Kojima continues. @PrismBlck gave an emotional plea, “Your better be immortal kojima because we need you for the next 100 years and more.” Like, same, dude. Same. Then, @fated4hatred got all misty-eyed while tweeting, “Death Stranding couldn’t be everything it is without you guys. Thank you!!!!!” And vibe? Immaculate.
Not everyone here came just for good vibes. @sup3rShinobi played the role of “That Guy” and began, “What the hell’s with Guerrilla’s gay pfp,” (It’s technically just their logo colored in rainbow colors). Then in less than tasteful fashion, @DavidPT516092 yelled, “ditch the pride shit!!!!” Dude, it’s 2024. Let people celebrate what they want.
On the other hand, some hype was still being dropped by the Horizon Squadron. @Slay3r881 even exclaimed, “Can’t wait for horizon 3,” while @Dande_Lion55 tied it together with, “Decima on DS2 makes me so excited for Horizon 3.” And honestly? Right. If Decima is making Death Stranding 2 look so bloody gorgeous, one can only fathom what it might do for Aloy next.
There was some speculation around the reveal of Horizon 3, with @tash__i wondering if Guerrilla would show it off at this year’s Game Awards. No word as of yet but hey, one can dream.
To cut the story short: This tweet was able to attract all kinds of reactions, from hype to criticism. If you’re hyped for Death Stranding 2, Horizon 3, or just here for all the drama, one thing’s for sure: Decima is finally getting its flowers, and Kojima’s newest installment is solidifying itself as a breakthrough soul-wrenching masterpiece. If you’d excuse me, I have to go stare at the concept art until my eyes bleed.
