Dayz published the wonderfully crazy update, essentially saying you just cannot trust a player with a car. The EXP updates will now be introducing modifications to the “More Cars” servers, bolstering the inventory of vehicle parts because these survivors seem to have been out there doing demolition derbies alone.
The official DayZ accounts floated the news in their usual brand wit: “Since there’s no way for us to enforce breathalyzer tests, we’ve stocked rides with extra batteries, spark plugs, radiators, and other essentials to curb your… enthusiastic driving decisions.” Said simply: Since they’ll never get the players to not smash a zombie vehicle in any means, they decided to make the repairs easier rather than attempt to teach them how to drive in a zombie apocalypse.
The said update should be applied to the experimental “More Cars” servers, further increasing the spawns of vehicles; they will now be cluttered with more useful components that will help keep the vehicles intact for more than five minutes before somebody has them wrapped into a tree. Now, that’s classic DayZ.
The response from the community has been nothing but exactly what you’d expect. Some players are celebrating the ease of car repairs, whereas a few took the opportunity to beg for other updates. One player that has 1300 hours on record admitted: “never once saw or used a car on official” servers, which honestly tracks with DayZ’s janky history on vehicles. Others immediately launched demands for suppressor attachments for sniper rifles (DayZ, only improvised suppressors, blasting hopes), while another random return requested a “code lock for bases.”
Highlighted moments from some of the random replies:
– Several players begging for base building updates (always)
– Somebody found the diving mechanics by accident, then drowned trying to loot a submarine
– The never-ending plea for new clothing options (“not everyone wants to wear military gear”)
– At least three different requests for PS5 ports or console updates
– One bloke just wanted a “hi” from the DayZ account (relatable)
The update comes as DayZ continues to fine-tune its 1.28 version before going to stable branches. While specifically buffing the car parts for experimental “More Cars” servers for the moment, one would say it is an indicator of devs paying attention to the way players deal with vehicles or probably violent misuse of vehicle.
Those jokes about drunk driving and the completely out-of-need list items coming from the replies make for prime DayZ community interactions. The game has been out for years, but it still somehow manages to spawn these absurd player-generated moments that no other survival game can match. Either this update is for everyone who nurtures their vehicle with care or for those who wreck their vehicles accidentally within seconds just to pick up a few parts. Just maybe don’t tell the devs if you’re in that second group.
