Days Gone fans are getting fiendishly angry!! Bend Studio, as if intentionally trying to pour lava on the fire, just released a teaser for the new remaster, which is all thick in the business of fun and horde slaying. In New Game+, the Growler is such a weapon that it should be having an “Horde Delete Button” sticker on it. Yeah, it stands for havoc all on its own.
What’s the deal with this? The Growler is not just some random peashooter picked off someone off a dead marauder; oh no. This bad boy will spawn at any nearby horde location in the story, so you can stop sweating bullets as 300 freakers sprinting at you like it’s Black Friday at Wal-mart. Deacon basically has an “I win” card, and frankly? We are on board.
Kindly recall that these fans would be like, ‘Wait, wasn’t Days Gone kind of easy once you got the hang of it?’ Well, okay, maybe. But NG+ was not about making the game harder. Rather, it was more towards making it stupid fun. The Growler? Oh, it delivers. Imagine mowing down a horde with something that feels like it was smuggled out of a Doom prototype. That’s the vibe.
Timing is interesting in that Days Gone Remastered somewhat made its way to PS5, and while it didn’t reinvent the wheel, the game was given a nice polish. This seems to be Bend’s way of apologizing to those die-hards still roaming the apocalyptic wasteland. Something tells me it was also a little tease – like, “Hey! Remember this world that you loved so much? Wink wink.” (No; we are not getting Days Gone 2. Let’s not stir the rumor pot again.)
But then again, the real question: Does the Growler really trivialize hordes? Kind of, yes. And that was the idea for NG+. This is meant for people who want to feel overpowered, to steamroll through this story like a post-apocalyptic Tony Soprano. It’s destined not for balancing, but for catharsis. And honestly? After those painful hours of having to run for their lives early in the game, they deserve this.
So if there is an NG+ save rotting away, get back on that. Get it. Find that Growler. Bring on hell. Hopefully, no one will actually cry internally during a pretend not-lament of a sequel never to occur.
Days Gone Remastered is live on that PS5, and the update is fresh. Go nuts!
