PlayStation recently made the next big announcement for May, namely the launch of the lineup of games coming in for PlayStation Plus subscribers for the month. Stuff that’s just about survival-crazy, deck-building insane, and completely Warhammer-fire-power.
Starting May 6, Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40000: Boltgun will be available for subs at no extra cost. And we honestly think? One of the greatest months in a long time.
Ark: Survival Ascended. In case you missed it-the original Ark: Survival Evolved (what where you doing??)-this is the remaster with all the dino, base-building, and PvP insanity turned up to 11. Gorgeous with better controls, fluent gameplay, and all the expansions rolled into one. Taming T-Rex? Getting sniped by some dude on a bush? Essentially, anybody who ever liked a survival simulator would strongly fancy that.
Then we have Balatro: the rogue-like deck-builder that sweeped Steam like a virus. Imagine poker, but with the power-ups so broken they would never be allowed in a real casino. It is addicting; it is absurd; this is ‘just one more run’ until 3 A.M. If you are into Slay the Spire but wish there had been more Jokers-card, not the Batman villain-then this one is for you.
Last but by no means least-Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. This is for those boomer shooter fans who remember when FPS were just about shooting demons in the face with a shotgun. Fast, loud, and retro in the rampantly pixel-art style that somehow makes chainsawing through the heretics all the more satisfying. As if Doom and Warhammer had a child, this is how it would sound.
So yeah, that’s a mighty collection indeed for the month of May. If the idea of surviving on an island occupied by dinosaurs appeals to you, but you are also up for smashing any card games with utter disregard with pixelated revenge on xenos, there is something for everyone in here. And besides that, hold your horses-no more waiting. All three games go live on May 6.
The big question is… which one are you playing first? The dino-tamer, the card shark, or the space marine-cry no more as Sony is handing zero excuses to get bored this month. Don’t say we didn’t warn you if you end up losing sleep over Balatro. It is a trap. A really fun trap.
